I replaced the battery in my 2002 Mountaineer. Now neither the fobs nor the door pad work. I've tried the procedure to re-program the fobs - nothing. I also noticed that the door pad doesn't lite up anymore when pressed. I tried to re-program the manufacture's code, but to no avail. What's wrong? Is it a fuse or some other malfunction? Help!

95 villager at idle and in gear foot on break the tranny pops in and out

reving the engin has no change. after about 5 min the tranny pops out for 5 to 10s then comes back in. this continues untill i shut it down. it has pop out once and did not come back in until i towed it home and restarted it in the driveway. the van has 183000. please help if you can it runs great i just put a new timing belt on and a new water pump.

The button to push when putting the car in gear sticks sometimes and wont allow you to put the car in gear. The weather has been very cold here. I don't know if that is a cause or not. Sometimes it does work.

I have a 1994 mercury sable transmission problem. How can I determine the transmission is shot or just a sensor?

The car runs fine and goes into gear fine but will not move. We are afraid to take it to a transmission repair shop because they will tell us we need a new transmission when it may be something minor. How can we tell it is definitely the transmission? Thank you very much for any help you can give us. The transmission oil does not smell burnt.

How to fix oil pressure in Mercury Capri 1992

When the car is idoling, the oil pressure goes way down and sometimes pegs out. I was told by a shade tree mechanic the oil filter could be getting clogged up, not allowing oil to pass through to the engine. Is this a simple problem to fix or is it something I have to live with?
I've had the '92 Capri for 10 years and would like to keep it. I was told when I bought it that the low oil pressure was a common thing with the Capris. It wouldn't be a problem unless the needle stayed on the peg. At which time if it did I needed to immediately turn off the engine. This happened to me 3 times. Can this problem be fixed?

My 97 Mercury Villager is making a loud, whining noise. When I put the brake on, it goes away. Help?

I use to hear the noise, but not as loud, then it went away. Now it is very loud, but the strange thing is when I apply the brake, it goes away for 20 seconds, then starts in again. Anyone have any ideas?

1992 Mercury Sable SW 3.0. 100k miles. Idles ok for a bit, then goes to 2k rpm.

When you start the car, it idles ok at about 700 rpm. After idling or driving for a few minutes it revs up to 2k rpm and won't idle down by pressing and releasing the throttle. Cut the ignition off and it does ok for a few minutes,then goes back to 2k and sometimes up to 3k rpm.

Noticed noise at about 39000 miles, thought it was tire noise. had tires replaced at 60000, noise still there! Dealer changed front wheel and rear wheel bearing. $960. Noise is still in rear end. He said there was a quiet kit available for rear end? Any one had these problems. Any solutions?

It is really hard to pay for this much work with so few miles. my expectations were far higher for this SUV. I have written Ford, but not received a reply yet.

I bought a 2008 sable on a saturday with only 39 miles on it. On wednesday i heard creaking,squeeking when going over speed bumps,somtimes very loud and not always. Brought it back to dealer and he said they lubed all the parts,that it was sitting on the lot for a long time. I was given no paper work as to what was done. Picked the car up about 5:30pm and brouht it back at 6:45pm with the same problem.The car stayed all the next day. Went to pick it up,went for a test ride with the service person,and did not hear the problem. He said drive it 300to500 miles and if it sitll has the problem,bring it back.I did bring it back yesterday with 350 miles. Went for test ride with service manager and i made it happen by going over speed bumps at 20mph to make it happen which i normally do not do. But wanted him to hear it.When i go slow over s-bumps and dips in the road it is sometimes much louder but intermitten. He told me that the shocks have to be broken in on these cars. That he would call ford headquarters and see what he could do or what they would do for me.So $30,000 in the whole with a new car that sounds like it came from the early ages. So i please need to know if anyone else has had the same problem. Thank you oh henry..

I was curius (and broke) so I figured I would ask about the fact that the ckp would trip off an engine light or at least be picked up by the high quality scanner that was used to get the knock sensor code.Is this really possible? Our 2002 Sable's transmission will leak every once in a while. It leaked last fall. I check the fluid and it did not read low. Last week I looked under the car and there was a small puddle of transmission fluid. Why will it leak occasionally and not all the time. It shifts correctly and smoothly. Someone told me that if pressure builds up it will come out the vent tube? Is this true. What would cause this pressure build up. The car has 70,000 miles on it.

My husband has a 70" Mercury Cougar XR7 that he is in the process of making it an Eliminator clone. He wants to put 17X10" rims in the rear & I want to surprise him with them in time for our local car show. I'm not sure if he will be able to do this because of back spacing, the wheel wells, & the trunk. Does anyone have experience/knowledge on this sort of thing? I would greatly appreciate your input.

When you shut the engine off the power steering fluid blows out the vent hole in the cap. I have replaced the pump twice and the steering rack once and removed the lines and blew them out and checked for any blockage and found none. The steering system bleeds out fine and works as it should until you shut the engine off? It is a 2001 Mercury Sable with a SOHC 3.0

I replaced the steering rack with a remanufactured one and it still blows fluid out the vent in the cap when you shut down. 2001 Mercury Sable.

I just have my rotors changed on my 2002 mercury mountaineer, and the steering wheel shaked badly, I looked underneath and seen that the mechanic had not tighten the wheel on my front end, and the front sway bar link was missing so I replaced it but it still shakes up and down.

'03 Mercury Sable DOHC. Metal powersteering hose came out from pump.

Last night I was making a U turn, I had the wheel fully turned for about 3 seconds when all of a sudden my steering gets very hard and smoke was pouring from my engine bay. I shut the car down in a panic thinking something was wrong (overheating). So I check under the hood when the smoke clears and it becomes quite clear that a "metal hose", was pushed or blown out of the pump. The nut that holds the "metal hose" in the pump is still attached to the pump.

There is no damage to the "metal hose" other than not being in the pump.

How can I fix this ?

My 2005 Mountaineer front hub bearing grinds and locks up and my AWD system disable. I need to replace the front hub bearing on the driver side, but having trouble removing the top bolt because my 15mm socket hits the shaft. Is their another tool I can use to remove this top bolt.

My ABS light came on a few days ago. It goes off and comes on again. This didn't happen until I got my brakes done. Mercury Cougar.
