I would like to educate myself on buying and selling used cars for additional income. Can anyone help me find information about:
- how to determine the right price for the used car I will buy that will allow me to turn some prfit upon selling it
-where to look for used cars priced decently
- what publications (print and internet) to use to advertise the cars for sale
- do I need to transfer ownership (title) fo the car right after I buy it? Or if I sell it right away, can I just not transfer the title?
- any good source of informaiton about buying and selling used cars will be appreciated.

Which is better-Lexus '08 IS250 Lease-24 Mo for $450/mo w/ $1500 down and 15k miles or 09 Camry XLE V6 for 30,559.Both w/Nav.

Toyota has 0%APR right now so I can own the car in 2 years. I really wanted luxury but I didn't feel I was getting any good deals on a lease. The 250 only has 208 HP whereas the Camry has 268 but I don't know if that's THAT big of a deal. I test drove both and since both have basically the same engine, wasn't a huge difference. The Lexus dealership keeps touting the "Lexus experience" but is that just marketing crap? I keep going back and forth about this and driving myself (and my family) crazy! Help!

Hello Everyone,

I have my eyes on a car that's been sitting on dealer's lot for a looong time (10 months and counting). It's a great car the manufacturer is not promoting at all. I test drove it over the Christmas holiday, even then the car had been sitting so long it had an odd odor when it ran. It was driven only 37 miles over 5 months, and it's still sitting there.

How would you negotiate something like this? What kind of deal would you expect to get? Should I wait until the end of the model year in August?

We requested quotes from three dealers through the Price Quote service. First dealer provided the best price which we didn't believe so we called them to verify the price. They verified that the price was correct so we drove the 40 minutes to their dealership only to have the Sales Manager tell us it was a mistake and that he would not sell us the car at that price. The price was around invoice price but with gas prices dealers are demanding MSRP and nothing less. Is there any recourse or does Edmunds care that dealers would do this to a consumer?

I'm in Montana. I got pressured into an on-the-spot signing of contracts on a used vehicle purchase. Everything was signed (loan, title transfers, etc) with the exception of the title transfer on my trade-in vehicle, which is joinlty in my and my mother's name (she is actually the primary). Paperwork was sent to have my mom sign off on the trade. In the following days, slight problems cropped up with the car being purchased, % rates did not meet what was suggested (although admittedly not promised) they would be settled on, and the short of it was that I wanted to back out of the deal. I have been driving the 'purchased' vehicle for 7 days, and my mom decided that to 'assist', she is not going to sign off on the title of the trade-in vehicle. The dealership is claiming that they have already performed work on the trade-in vehicle. My main question is, am I liable for the work they have put into the trade-in vehicle? I was never asked about, or authorized any work being done to it.

I just bought a used vehicle. All of the floor carpeting has a yellow hue even though it was steam cleaned. The carpeting on the doors looks ok. The fasteners on the bottom of the doors inside also have corrusion around them. Do you think the car was in flood waters? If it was, I'm not sure I want it. Do I have any recourse from the dealer?

I am going by myself to check out what the various dealerships have in the model I am interested in & want to do a test drive & see options, but I do not want them to run a credit check on me as I have heard they will do that once I leave my driver's license to do a test drive. I plan to pay cash (a new car 2008)and have heard you should not tell them that up front(no trade in). How can I assure the credit check is not done? I will go back to actually purchase with my Dad on another day once I have decided.Will definitly not buy on this first visit by myself. Also I really need to know how to handle things when I am there alone checking models (what to say, ask, etc how much info to give them)as I am sure they will hound me to buy on the spot esp since it is so close to the end of the month.
