96 Tracker that 4x4 isn't working. Frt. driveshaft turns, hubs lock, but no drive from engaging. Any ideas?

My 96 Tracker is not engaging the front c/v axles when shifted into 4whl drive. I've raised the vehicle off the ground, with all 4 wheels free to turn, locked in both hubs and, by hand, turn the wheels. The driver's side c/v axle turns when I do this but the passenger side does not. Then when I start the vehicle and put it in to 4whl hi or lo there seems to be no drive from the egine at idle and barely turns the driver's side front wheel. The front driveshaft is turning and seems to have no problems. I'm wondering if there is any type of actuator switch, either vacuum or electrical, on the fornt axle that is not working or may be disconnected.

95 ford escort. When cold, the tranny sometimes disengage and engine revs. high. Any idea what is causing this?

Just started last week. Car has just over 60,000 miles. I had the tranny oil changed and put in some transmission oil treatment. It is still happening - however, when operating, the change of gears is a lot smoother. When it happens, it does not matter what gear it is on, it's all the same.

When I stop and put the car in park, then reverse and back-up a bit, back in park and then in gear, it usually engages and stays there.

Any suggestions?

I installed new clutch, pp, and flywheel. We bled the clutch till clear, test drove the car one block with two gear changes and lost drive to the front wheels. The gears are engaging, but the clutch is not. What might have happened?
We pushed the car back, checked the shift linkage, rebled the clutch, and still no power to the front wheels. Hmmm...ideas?

Thanks for your input on the clutch problem. Further investigation of the slave cylinder lead us to the c/v axle output shaft. On an Acura the output shaft can slip out and cause the same symptoms. Secure the output shaft, refill the gearbox, and off you go.
pr55

If I give it a little pedal it engages into drive again. The trans is full of fluid, so what could this problem be. Is it serious? Should I get a refund?

I mentioned refund because I just bought the car for 400 bucks five days ago from an individual. I don't know if he will give me my money back, but being my only way to get back and forth to work, I did not want a car that I had to start sinking a lot of money into. Thanks for the answer. I agree that it is probably the fluid pump. My next question would be how much cash am I going to spend to get it fixed?

05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado takes long time to swich gears during regular driving.

I am very new to this whole car thing......

05 Jeep does not seem to be switching gears on its own

Just bought a used 05 GCL, 43k, 2 owners, it was good for like 2 days. Now it almost like skips or putts or pulseates while driving...randomly. Dealer took it like 6 times already...outcome...TRANS BUSH GUIDE LEAK....not a clue what that was(I am a female who knows squat about cars)...anywho it was not resolved and now the problem is worse. Not only does it do all the above but it recently jumped foward 2-3 times...slighty, but enough to scare me...and has real hard time accelerating or almost switching gears when going from stop to like 30 then 40.....and then shoots foward!! Like the engine revs and the gas pedal gets real hard and bang...car jumps and then starts deaccelerating on its own. Sometimes it wont even go over 30..the gas pedal just does not want to move....pulseates, skips, jumps foward a little sometimes, won't go over 30 alot, gas pedal becomes hard and scared to push on it, will drive fine and then start to deaccelerate on its own and when trying to keep it at constant speed it will not budge...engine revs then charges foward like bat outta hell. It was at a 5-7 rmp while at 30 mph after trans bush guide was replaced...which made the car worse. Please help, I think I was sold a very expensive glass of lemonade.

Can you explain to me more about the trans bush guide??? And do you think my transmission is the cause of all the problems listed?

Why does my automatic transmission hesitate before engaging? 2000 Subaru Outback.

I have a 2000 Subaru Outback and lately the automatic transmission has been taking anywhere from 1 to 2 seconds to several seconds to engage once I put it in drive (no problem with reverse). This only happens after it has been parked for a while. The transmission works perfectly otherwise. I have been told the problem is inside the transmission, and that it is outside the transmission. Any ideas what's going on?

I have a 1996 Sabre lawn tractor sold by Sears in 96. John Deere was the company that made this unit. I'm having trouble with the hydrostatic transmission, " slipping and not pulling correctly" replacement is to expensive "$800.00" and I am looking for a fix that will give me some more hours before I am forced to replace the tractor. HELP, ALEX

Gear Ratios? Is there a website that provides gear ratios for various types of vehicles?

I am comparing the gear ratios on various vehicles. I was wondering if someone could tell me where I could find a summary of the final drive ratio, and the gear ratio for 1st gear and 2nd gear. Any vehicles would be helpful.
