Is it possible for a CD/DVD player to damage a disk internally?

Sometimes when I lend out CDs they come back with the strangest kinds of damage, such as circular grooves that follow the rotation of the disk, or even radial scratches (perpendicular to rotation). Is this human error or can a machine really do this? How? I didn't think anything "touches" in there.

Did you resolve your stuck CD problem? My Bose 6 CD is doing the exact same thing.

I had a Smart Digital Adapter and Xm tuner added to my factory radio. I did not remove CD's from the radio before having the items added. The CD's now appear stuck and the radio doesn't recognize that CD's are in there and the CD icon flashes. The problem is identical to yours. Did you get it resolved or find a way to get the CD's out?

Radio is no longer functioning.

2002 Toyota Tundra type 4 radio/cd/tape player. Cannot access cd or tape feature(s). Unit will not eject cd, currently in player slot. Dealer wants $500+ to R&R and additional $500+ to send to repair outlet. Anybody have any suggestions, other than selling truck?

Bought the car from an auction, so couldn't really ask anyone when I bought it, but basically when I turn the car on, it wants to come out, but it only comes out a few centimeters and just keeps making like these changing CD noises and attempting to eject noises. The 6 CD changer Radio has a bad CD changer. It's a Mach 460. We pulled it out and got the P/N and tried e-bay to see if we can find a replacement unit. We don't want to spend a fortune. There are lots of similar part numbers listed on e-bay for 01 t 04 Mustangs. Sellers say it "should" work! The pictures look identical...but we're not sure if they are compatible. Does anyone know if, first of all, the unit can be repaired? Is it possible to just replace the 6-CD player part? There is only one unit listed on e-bay with the exact p/n and the seller is selling it "as is". It was salvaged and he doesn't know if it works! But people are bidding on it so I guess they're willing to take the chance.

The CD player was working fine one day and when I got in it the next day the cd player was making a funny noise and it when I tried to eject the cd's it would not do anything.

Hi, I am having the identical problem with my Bose 6 disk changer in my 2003 Chevy Suburban. It is full (6 cd's are loaded) and it says Initializing when I turn the key on, and sits there and clicks for a while, and then I can not get anything to happen...no music...no eject. recently the cd player stopped working properly and an err message comes up on the display and ejects the cd. Until the other day i had to keep a cd halfway in the drive so that it would no try to take a cd in or eject it when the car was off as to not run down the battery. I have not been able to find out what causes this problem or how to fixit

my sister was using my car and stopped by my job to see me. while there when she went back to the car it wouldnt turn on. I used my CD player as I always do and the CD suddenly disapperaed! The dealer said this "happens a lot", appartently a defect in the player. Very costly and unfair to have to replace it for almost $400 Anyone familiar with this problem and have any other solution?
