Edmunds makes money on every free auto quote submitted, why not tell people then to respond to a dealers replies?

Edmunds.com voraciously pushes the "free quotes" but most people do not realize that these come at a cost to the dealer, and Edmunds.com makes substantial profit in this area! it's big money! Why not tell people that a dealer will probably want to contact them, at least by phone to ensure they have all their facts straight so they can quote on the correct vehicle? It might be easy to submit a free quote, Edmunds.com get paid either way, but the dealer is always left at a disadvantage. If you really want a great quote, why not engage the dealer or Internet Sales Manager from that dealership? Free quotes are good for edmunds and their profit, but not the dealers who get to pay for iffy leads.

why are edmunds prices so much less than kelly blue book, and how do i use this to negotiate? KBB is the standard. example 1996 nissan sentra gle with 210000 miles auto trans in fair condition comes up $650 on edmunds and almost $2000 on KBB. thx

Does the TMV value always factor in the Manufacturer- Dealer incentives even though it may have contingencies?

From what I read, Manufacturer to Customer incentives are not included in the TMV price because these are either automatic or contingent upon using a special APR or a rebate. However, when the Manufacturer to Dealer has contingencies as well that you have to pick the special APR or this, Is this STILL included in the TMV price?

How can a buyer determine the TRUE MARKET VALUE on any product when the
parameters, such as todays higher fuel costs plus a consumer that's, (credit wise),
all but "tapped out" in this economy, that typically have been used over a 4-5 year
historical pattern have nothing to do with a '2008 landscape that "skews" everything.

Without really knowing what I'm talking about I feel, for example, on a "used/
low mileage,..say '07 Pilot," that the REAL MARKET VALUE (determined by willing
buyers) is really some 15% lower than the KBB/Edmonds estimated resale value
that was based on data that's not reflective of todays sales environment.

Any comments that might dispute my suggestions. It seems that SUV's, even
including the "mighty Pilot," are depreciating at a much faster pace then has
ever existed, historically, so values based on "old consumer demands" are
"outa touch" with the real-world activity.

I'd like to purchase a two to three year old car (a nice one, hopefully).

I've accululated the TMV prices for the cars I'm interested in, but I have a question: What exatly does it mean "2006 BMW 330"? (just an example)

Many manufacturers sell next year models during the fall of the previous year. Is a 330 BMW sold 9/05 (but a 06 model) considered to be as much a 2006 model as the 330 BMW sold 9/06? Mileage is one thing but also years in service counts, right? And 12 months for a 2-year old period is a long time, 9/05 is 3 years old and 9/06 is 2 years old... That's 50% more time on the road.

Can I just assume that during 2008, a "2006" price means a car that is pretty much 24 months on the road?

If I see a "2006" model, built 4/05 and in service 5/05 (from carfax), so it is almost 3.5 years old, shouldn't I just look for the "2005" price in the TMV reports?

Ummm, and if I do any linear interpolation for a 2.5 year old car ( so pick a price between the 2005 and 2006 price...), would that make any sence?

For example, which exactly is the right TMV price for a 2007-model BMW 550 sold 9/06? Is it under the 2006 or the 2007 column?

I got a quote from Proctor Honda for HondaFit09 base auto.

And the internet manager gave me a walk out door price $18100.

TMV give me a price of 157xx$ for this car, which is way lower than the walk out price.

What option does a customer have when told by a Toyota dealer recommended by Edmunds that the Edmunds TMV price was wrong for the Camry Hybrid 2009?

According to the dealer, "Edmunds doesn't build the car, Toyota does." Is there any obligation on the part of the dealers who are referred by Edmunds to take the Edmunds price seriously? The dealer in question is Competition Toyota, Middle Island, NY.

Is it wise to go into the dealer with the holdback minus the invoice as a starting point to negotiate the price of the car? The TMV for this car is way above that price. I was wondering how it gets that far ahead of the invoice. I know that the dealer has to make a profit, but the TMV seems way inflated compared to what the dealers are paying for this car.

My question is I only need to lease for 24-27 months so would I still be able to take advantage of this offer if I go to the dealerships. For instance, when trying to evaluate a '95 Subaru Legacy wagon with 100+k miles, it didn't make a difference in the price whether I had selected 'outstanding' as the condition, or just 'clean'. It seems odd that, after a point, a car's condition wouldn't matter.
