I have a 1991 Volvo 940 wagon with 186,000 miles on it (barely broken in!) but yet broken with a blown head gasket. It's at the mechanic now. What can I expect to pay for the repair?

Note - the engine didn't seize. I was driving and it started driving quite rough and losing power uphill. I was able to get it to the shop safely.

Protecting Rims on a Volvo C30. Wider profile tires?

I just purchased a C30 Version 2.0. It comes with beautiful 18" rims and, unfortunately, they are even with the outide of the tires' sidewalls. This means that my wife and I will be in race to be the first to scrape up one or more of them while parking or going through the carwash. Since this car comes with summer tires anyhow, I was thinking of getting all season tires with a wider profile--if that makes any sense. For those of you who know about tires, what size of all season tire would you recommend to help protect the rims a bit more? Is there any other way to help protect these rims?

2001 Volvo S80 - 89,500 miles - Out of nowhere a "no oil pressure, pull over asap, stop engine" message appeared. I had no other message or warning prior to this.

I had the car towed to the service dept. at the volvo dealership. They replaced the 0 rings and oil pan and had me pick up the car the next day.

Within 5 miles of picking up my car, the same message appeared. I had it towed once again and they said that no one there understands what's going on and they double checked their repairs and said the barrings are fine.

They said the engine is probably shot and it will cost more to check the engine than to put one in from a junkyard. Please HELP!!!! How can this happen with no warning! Any ideas! PLEASE HELP!!!!

One tire blew out, the other 3 are in excellent condition. Size variance between old tires and the new one is 4mm. Tire store technician says he thinks I need to change out other 3 tires as well. Talked to Volvo dealership and they weren't very helpful. Can anyone tell me whether or not I need to change out the other three in order to avoid problems with the all wheel drive system?

02 Volvo S40 brakes. Bendix? Textar? OEM? Hawk? Help?

Hi, as some of you might know a volvo s40 (02) can be a quirky car.

So this advice being sought out is geared towards euro makes;

I need brake advice as I have been researching for 2 weeks with mixed answers about which pads to go with. My main concern is 1. money and 2. there is no volvo mechanic here only truck people ( small town USA) 3. I have to drive over the Colorado rockies next month but otherwise we only use the car for around town and 4.Pad fit and easy installation ( and of course decent braking power.

Im going Brembo rotors ( oem ) no brainer. But Im confused about pads.

Which OEM is best? I saw Bendix MKD Titaniummetallic2 which looked like an oem ( I think?).
Prefer built in Shims so the technician doesnt have to think much. Want reduce any mistakes or screw ups that might put my life at risk. ( Error in Piston removal or shim sliding off or squeeling due to neglectfull install).

Most said Hawk, then someone said Mintex then a gazillion other suggestions with equal amount of disagreements! I would say most recommend OEMs for this car but they forget to mention a brand name! Are textar/PBS or Dan block OEMs, if so which is the best /worst? Are those cheapies? ( I only get 18K-20k miles on a set of brakes..its common with this car so need to be better quality to last a tad longer). Been buying what dealer gives me which is probably cheap, cheap!

I like how Bentix was split to prevent cracking, how the blue stuff helps the break in process and price was right. Why isnt bentix mentioned much for this car? Any reason it might not be popular for a volvo?
Lots of Questions, just want a good fit, easy install but decent performance so I feel safe. Oh of course, a decent material thats gentle on rotors.
Thank you!!!

Just bought a new 09 Volvo XC70 AWD. 1 week later power steering rack assembly or hose replaced. How does this affect value?

New Volvo XC70 AWD had purchased and 1 week later had to have a new power steering rack assembly and hose replace the factory installed one. Our questions are:

Shouldn't the dealer replace our car with a similar one?

Assuming we have no further issues, how does this affect the resale value of this car. Currently has 1000+ miles on it. Bought it at around 100 miles (?).

Is this car safe to drive?

Thanks.

My 2008 Volvo S80 AWD T6 required a new front to rear driveshaft. Has anyone had this problem?

The Volvo S80 AWD was 2,000 miles over the 50,000 mile warrantee, therefore it cost me $1,200 for the new driveshaft.

Very little help from the dealer nor Volvo.

Anyone know of any bulletins?
The front tires of my 2003 volvo XC70 are 1 month old Pirelli Scorpions and bald. I have only owned the vehicle for 3 months. I thought the front tires were new when I purchased it but those were bald within a month too. What could cause this to happen?

Thank you for your help with this!

Can my Volvo C50 T5 routinely handle forest service dirt roads?

I live in Arizona, and have discovered there are lots of forest service roads to camping and lakes. The roads are generally in good shape. I am not talking about 4wd roads. The roads sometime have little "wave" bumps (and the faster i go the less i feel them). I am wondering if the suspension and tires should be beefed up or if I should get a small SUV. I like the V50 on paved roads, it is reasonably fuel friendly (if I do not gun it) but it has power if I need it! The run is fine for me (I go a rocket box).
