Engine cuts off abruptly while driving without any warning at all every and starts again after 5 minutes.

I am experiencing the following problem with my Honda CR-V ES 2000 which happened after a service was done about 2 months ago.<br><br>The Engine has abruptly cut off twice in one week and has happened few time since the above work was carried out without any warning lights showing any malfunction and the car starts after 5 minutes rest. Everything seems to function alright until the next time. Dealer checked it out and they can not find anything wrong (no error code, and can't reproduce the problem) I do not feel safe driving the vehcle and could be dangerous for others. <br><br>If any one has experienced similar problem, any advice or suggestion will be appreciated.<br>

How can I tell if the timing belt had been changed on a 98 Honda CR-V, along with a couple of related services?

Just bought a 98 Honda CRV with 175000 kms and while getting other service done, the Honda Service Advisor asked if the Timing Belt was changed and a couple of service work around it was done. This would cost about $650. In order to change this timing belt they have to remove the steering wheel and a number of parts to get access to the belt and other parts around it which is the reason for the cost of labour. I have no idea who the previous owner is. Is there a tell-tale sign in the performance and what would go wrong if I don't change it if it was due necessary?

Problem if Tranny tech did not use HONDA OIL when rebuilding my 98 CRV?

A month ago I bought a 98 CRV with 175000kms, had the warranty firm A-PROTECT rebuild the Transmission at their own choice of garage for $2300 but found out on picking it up that the transmission company did not use HONDA OIL on his own admission and claimed that it was as good or better than Honda with no problems in his past experience. Even the USED CAR dealer advised to use ONLY Honda oil as did all other Transmission Garages I went to for an estimate stressing that only Honda oil works for Honda cars! The warranty company paid $650 and persuaded the Seller to cough up $450 out of good will. I have to go back in 2 weeks for a spot check for leaks etc. Should I wait for 30,000 kms and change to Honda oil at a dealer, noting that only 4 out of 6 quarts can be replaced? Is there a problem mixing oils here specially when topping of the oil level when necessary? Should add the Car is running like a dream machine.<br>CL

Loud squeeky noise as brakes applied the first time after being idle several hours or overnight in 98 CRV

I have a 98 Honda CR-V with 175kms. The used car dealer put new brakes including drums, rotors etc but after a few days it started making a loud scraping, squeeky noise when brakes are applied first time getting out of the drive way or parking lot after not being used for several hours or overnight. This noise immediately disappears after the first application of brakes only to return the next time in the situation described. The garage had used after-market parts so it could pass the Transport Ministry Safety test. Is this caused by an inferior part which is re-acting to humidity or cold? Midas Muffler inspected the work and said it was OK! Now I am thinking of going to a Honda Dealer which is more $$$. Is it the Rotor, Brake pads or rear drums? Any insight into this would be appreciated, thank you.<br>CL

Honda 98 CRV rear brake noise still persists and getting louder.

98 Honda CRV. The loud squeaky noise (metal rubbing against metal) on first braking after car being idle for a half hour or more is getting worse and is coming from the rear wheels this is accompanied by a loose rattling clanging noise which mysteriously disappears after a couple of stops only to return after parking for a half hour to an hour. The noise is equivalent to a large tractor trailer or dump truck coming to a stop (metal against metal). These brakes passed the Ontario safety board test about 7 weeks ago and were installed by a used car dealer that sold it to me. This is driving me batty as I just had the tranny rebuilt for $2,300. It's not rust as it's not the front disks/rotors, it's coming from the rear wheels. Any clue? Thank you so much! I thought the noise would disappear after a week but it's gotten worse.<br><br>Clive

Unusual noise instantly after starter has fired engine in cold 10 degree Farenheit (or below) on 98 Honda CRV.

Recently bought a 98 CRV 178,000 kms and discovered a problem during these cold days 10F (or below) in Canada. A loud schreechy noise immediately after the starter has fired the engine (similar to the noise you get when by mistake you key the ignition again on an already running engine parked in your driveway) This noise stops after 3 seconds so then I turned off the engine to restart and the same thing happens but if I drive for a while then stop and restart, it's OK and back to normal. Happens again after the engine has been idle for over 5 hours in 10F and below cold (-12 degree Celsius). Is this something that is related to my starter or engine or spark plug related problem? Your input in this is greatly anticipated and thanks for the same. <br>– CL

Mechanic advice on Honda

My little Honda crx has a tendency to jump the RPMs from 1500 to 2000 and back to 1500 constantly when the car is parked or on neutral. I have noticed that it even does when the engine is warm and the RPMs are lower. I have also replaced the pump but it is still doing the same thing. What causes the engine to do that and how do I fix this problem. Thank you for your time.

Honda CRV2000 ECU below 40 deg.The ECU doesn't recognize the Tach input.Warm the car, turn off/on,presto it works

The ECU works fine when preheated I know this because I put a hair dryer on the ecu for 3 mins at 20 deg outside air temperture. I can't drive the car until this problem goes away because it controls the transmission. I also notice that ocassionally the cruise control won't hold . After repeated switching it will work. This may be unrelated. I bought another ECU used but not sure if I can just swap it out. Don't know what characteristics it will alter. Such as the milage. Does it need to be reprogramed at the dealer. If so what does the Key do to effect the ECU. When I disconnect the battery does the ECU remember all its programed data through a rom chip indefinitely. So atleast I can try the used ECU and still be able to put the original one back without loss of function. I haven't got around to trying any of this because I need the car. I can't afford down time unless it's necessary.<br>Thanks Javawalky

Hello, I have a 2001 Honda cr-v 4 cylinder. The check engine light came on. The engine revs up and down very fast in park and in neutral. It runs fine in gear. Idle up and down fast then slow. The repair man said it was a throttle ? something. I can't remember what it was now. He said the part was approx. $200.00. The day he looked at it for some reason it did not rev fast and slow. It was normal. He said that it sticks sometime. Could you please tell me what you think and what the part is. Thank you!

2007 Honda CR-V usually registers estimated range of 375 miles after fill-up. Recently, the range indicator has been jumping around. Example: This morning it started out at range of 305 miles remaining. After 25 minute commute in city traffic, it jumped up to 355 miles. That jump moves the fuel graphic display towards the full range. Any ideas on cause and fix?

Someone backed up without looking and hit me at a stoplight (and then took off, but that's beside the point)...now my car's hood won't close all the way. Also, it's only by a very little bit, but the bumper also doesn't quite line up with the rest of the car(?). Maybe it's supposed to be this way, but I didn't notice it until after this little incident. <br><br>I've had to drive on the freeway with it as is, and it hasn't come loose, but it rattles around quite a bit. I have a 2004 Honda CRV. Any suggestions on how I can fix it? I'm a college student, so I have been trying to avoid expensive repairs.

98 Honda CRV 4WD rebuilt transmission is jerky and rumbles at brake pedal before stopping.

I own a 98 Honda CRV 4WD, 2.0 litre, automatic with 180,000 kms bought about 5 months back. The transmission seem to slip a bit at low speeds at 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear shifts (automatic) so I had it rebuilt at Transmission kingdom in Concord as per warranty of A-Protect that paid $650 while the dealer coughs up $450 and I paid $1,400. But it seems to be still quite jerky (not smooth) and after 3 months it seems to be getting worse in city driving at speeds between 15 kmph and 40 kmph. Also when I brake 1 out of 3 times it seems to rumble and vibrate at the brake pedal just before coming to a stop. I had new Honda OEM brakes put just before the transmission rebuild and it was not causing such a problem but only after the rebuild I notice this feeling at the pedal when stopping from a speed of 35 kmph gradually to 0, otherwise braking is smooth. Question – Is this typical of Honda 4WD automatic and why the strange rumble just before stopping 3 out of 6 times depending what position the gears are in? I am wondering if this specialist knows how to fix a Honda transmission. Are they difficult to fix? Should I get a second opinion from a transmission garage? Otherwise the car runs great.<br>

I had two tires slashed last week. They couldn't be repaired and I replaced one and figured I would deal with the other one later. I called a tire shop who said that on a AWD Honda that replacing just two tires would throw off the differential and could cost me $3000 in the future so I should replace all four tires at once to maintain the integrity of the differential. Is this true?

I have an 04 Honda CR-V that is making a thumping type noise when making tight turns like into a parking space.

just replaced the front strutts and mechanic checked tires, pressure and exhaust system. No visible signs of rubbing and sound seems to come from the front driver's side and is not heard on the open road. Sound can be heard either backing up in a tight turn or pulling into a parking space either right or left side.

My 07 Honda CR-V transmission went out today with only 25,000 miles.

So I am wandering if this has happened to anyone else, I have had a honda for 10 years, mostly civics and never experienced these problems. I am pretty upset about this, thought hondas were reliable? So the only problem recently with the car was an annoying high pitched noise during acceleration which was intermittent. Just wandering if anyone else has experienced this.
