Car Paint Issues

hi,

I bought a brand new luxury car in Raleigh NC a couple of years back. When the car was 6 months old, I gave it for detailing at the car dealership. But when I got my car back, the paint had come off a few places. I am still trying to settle the issue with them.

But one thing I am wondering is if the car had been repainted before it was sold to me?
How can I tell if the brand new car had been repainted or how do I find out if there was a defect in the car paint?
Are there any known stores or paint body shops who do this kind of evaluation?

The dealership claims that the damage could not have happened during the detailing and some thing else had fallen on the car before that. I am lost and tired and don't know what to do. Mostly I will accept this deal and go ahead if the paint looks alright. I went to a paint body shop and they quoted only $1200 for the same job. Do you think it is fair to ask the dealer to match that price?

Any advice regarding this matter is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean.
It resembles cement and barely flakes off when I rub it. I'm afraid to just rub it off and not dissolve it because it appears it may damage my paint. It's in small droplets all over my trunk and roof and I have no idea where it came from or what exactly this stuff is.

I just bought a 2010 Toyota Camry and I'm undecided if Paint Protection film is worth 300-500 dollars.$300 covers half the hood, $500 covers the whole hood, both cover front bumper/fenders and backs of the side mirrors. I don't drive on gravel roads but I do live in an area with snow every winter, meaning they do put sand, chemical and/or salt on the roads.

Paint care - New car - Nissan Altima - need REAL advice.

I picked up a 06 Frontier and attempted to keep it as nice as possible and failed.

Now we have a new 08 Altima. BLACK. It already has some minor swirls etc from poor car washing prior to selling it.

I want to use the BEST quality items for taking care of this vehicle and my frontier. Please help.

I started using Microfiber towels, washed after every use. I use one for the top half of the car, and another for the bottom half. I do NOT use the same soap and bucket for the bottom half of the car. I then do the wheels last. I still have plenty of marks on the car.

I was interested in doing some serious spring cleaning on this truck. I noticed the mothers 3 step process. Is this worth it?
Btw - I use pure carnuba and a polish pad to apply, microfiber to remove wax. I only waxed about 3 times a year.

So what can I do to bring my trucks finish back to the best quality I can. I'll buy whatever I need to...I need new tools/toys. :) If I need a buffer so be it.

And how should I start with this new Altima? Is there anything I can do NOW before I get tree sap, bug goo etc before it's too late? How about from now on?

Thanks!

S

I noticed the spots the first time I washed the truck. (had only 500 mile on it). There were 3 spots on the passengers door but as time passes more spots keep appearing. I now can count the 3 on one door, one on the other passenger's door, one on the box and one on the tailgate. They are the size of a softball and an off white to a light yellow and become more noticeable as time passes. I first thought that it was repairs made at the factory but there's too many appearing in different places. The company rep. is off for 3 months so for the time being nothing is getting done. What would you think the spots are and what would you expect to be done about it ? I don't want my new truck repainted. I only had it 3 months.

But when we contacted Honda, they said they will not pay for repainting. What can I do?

The dealer claims that all cars will have this spots, he calls it "environmental dust", and you will notice more on white/grey color cars. He tried to clean it with a white liquid and the spots came off. Will this process not remove a layer of the color? I am sure next year will be the same.Is it better to do nothing???

The car came with this already added to the list.. it was only like 330.00 but I thought it was strange that I should do the application. I have also read that the extra spray underneath really does help with noise..but how do I know if it was applied? I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow but would like to know if anyone has had this done or knows anything about it.thanks
Had to take 2 trips during the winter months of approximately 600 miles in my 2008 black impala ss, bottom of door panels are now chipped and grey speckled. Very noticable and looks like crap! Have at least 10 rock chips on car hood, back quarter panel.
Went 35 mph on the roads that contained cinders.
Is the GM Paint / clear coat having issues? I love my Dealer, so I wanted to find out more before I approached him to stand behind it.

My parents are seniors and make frequent trips out of state. The Vue's gas mileage was attractive and perfect for their lifestyle. Everything was fine for the first couple of months with the new vue.
Besides the many technical problems they have had with this vehicle, the most frustrating thing is the paint defects on the driver's side door.
Their Vue is bright yellow. (my parents are pretty hip) A black bubble appeared on the driver's side door and by the time my dad took it to the dealership the next week, a half-dollar sized peel
On my 2008 RAV4 with 5000 miles on it I have recently - in last 2 months - been getting a yellowish brown oily stain on the right rear fender panel - same side as the tailpipe. I have to wash it off with soap and water but in a day or two there it is again. The longer I leave it the worse it gets. The dealer seems perplexed and offered this explanation: Water on road splashes on to tailpipe, turns to steam and deposits the result on the panel. No way! I have checked with other RAV4 owners in the area, examined others parked in various lots and see no such stain. Toyota head office couldn't/ wouldn't offer any diagnosis via email and suggested I contact my dealer. Seems to be a catch 22. Anyone else out there with an answer I can present to my dealer?

So I was just wondering if i could use a razor blade or something like that with some hot water and remove it myself. Would I do any damage to the glass? Please Help.

People who've purchased new Toyota vehicles in the last couple of years tell me that they've had serious problems with the paint chipping and even peeling off. I guess Toyota has recently changed over to a water-based paint, which most believe is the reason. Toyota of course is playing dumb, but when I go online I find a lot of blogs on it. Any input from you experts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Okay, I know this is totally a personal preference, but thought I'd throw it out there for people to express their opinion about the color choices for the A4.

I'm toying between:
Meteor Grey (not sure about the deep blue color - the more I see it, the more I don't like it; looks really dull unless in bright sunshine. But I think it might grow on me...)

Quartz Grey (probably my favorite, although it sounds like it's not available anytime soon with the options I want)

Ice Silver: they liked it so much that's the only color in the brochure

Black (either regular or pearl effect): sort of generic, but classic. Everyone complains about how hard it is to keep clean, but there are sure a lot of black cars out there.

As I continue to obsess, I went out a visited another Audi dealer (on Sunday and salesperson-free!) to see what they have on their lot. Three of my top choices were (nearly) side-by-side. I snapped several iPhone pictures so I could continue to obsess.

http://albums.phanfare.com/6886050/31798...

Is anyone having front end paint failure issues with their Infiniti QX56?

The dealer is claiming that i have "road rash" and is rejecting warranty. i however have been watching this deterioration over a period of months. I have also started to take note of other QX56's when I see them parked. Conservatively, 75% of those I've seen have the same issue to varying degrees. There is no pock marks or marring to the low end chrome grill, lights or other areas of the vehicle. There is zero evidence of damage that doesn't penetrate thru the paint. The attending Dealer was dismissive and cold. I would not recommend purchasing from Infiniti of Bedford in Bedford Ohio. I should note that the selling dealer in Orlando assured me that they would remedy the issue should I desire to drive it back to Florida. Further evidence that the service end of Infiniti of Bedford leaves much to be desired.
