This is my daughter's car and it has a #5 misfire code--I'm guessing bad ignition coil based on her description of loss of power/shutter at times in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Started out doing it once a month, then once a week, now ever other day. Car has 173K with new plugs @110K.

Any ideas on solving pinging on a Honda Accord v6? Premium unleaded helps, but does not eliminate the issue. Thanks.

The car has 188,000km and has had the spark plugs changed once at around 110,000. The pinging problem went away for a few months after I had to have the Idle Air Valve changed, but is now back. Premium unleaded helps enormously, but does not "solve" the problem completely. Honda does not advise using any carbon solvents, but thinks there is carbon in the combustion chamber.

Any help would be much appreciated.
I hooked up the OBD2 scan tool and it indicated that there was a misfire detected in Cylinder 4. Now how do I go about diagnosing exactly what to repair...the spark plugs, the ignition control module, an ignition spider? I'm new to this so am trying to understand how to go about trying to make this repair myself. Is this going to be a bit of trial and error or is there a better way to figure out what to focus on? Thanks.

The car started acting like it wanted to cut off and got very little power when I pressed the gas. It was also shaking a little and noisy. It has never done it before. I had it diagnosed at the auto store today. The check engine light is on and sometimes flashes and the car drives normal at times. Is the misfire expensive to repair or should my warranty cover the repairs?

Started car and rpm went right to 4k. Throttle does not respond and there is no mechanical obstruction in TBI. 2000 Chevy Malibu.

I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu, 3.1L that has been sitting for about a month. Started the car today and the throttle was sluggish and didn't want to accelerate. after backing out of drive seemed okay for a minute then the rpm shot up to 4k and the pedal would not respond. Shut the car off. Tried restarting and the idle shot right to 4k. Looked at the air intake to see if there was an obstruction holding the throttle body open and everything seemed clean and clear. Unplugged a few of the sensors on the intake hose and there was no change. Nothing looks out of place or broken. What would cause the idle to rev up on its own? Tried to step on the pedal and manually move the throttle from under the hood and it seems to bog a little but does not slow the idle.

My 99 3.4L V6 Pontiac grand am had a bad intake manifold gasket. I don't have a lotta money and knowing the basics about cars I decided to do it myself with my Haynes manual in hand I labeled everything changed it and put it all back together with "no extra parts left" I was so happy I got in and fired it up to hear a loud ping knock knock ping I took the valve cover off to find my 4 year old switched the intake and the exhaust push rods for # 4 cylinder and busted the long push rod in half (where the short should have been).

I went and got a new one nd put it in the right spots. so happy again only to start the car and it runs like crap with the engine jumping and the hole car vibrates real bad and the tail pipe has white wet smoke coming out. But the knocking is gone. Could I have bent a valve?

The guy at the part store told me to check the cam sensor and the wires are frayed and exposed so its getting changed today. if it was a bent valve would it still start? How would it run if it did and can you change on with out taking it all apart? Is there a way to tell if it's bent without having it towed to have a compression check?

Oh the service engine soon light was blinking and it read Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. Please help, low on cash....

Ignition coil for that cylinder is working properly, plugs were replaced on 10-12-09.

Is it likely that changing the valve cover gasket will correct this problem or is it possibly more serious than that? Under that is where the sparkplugs are. 4 On this coilpack and another 4 on the other side of the engine, the back part towards the cabin. That coilpack, closest to the car main cabin, is black. J

Scanned with my comp. scanner and says cylinder 8 misfire

I have changed all the sparkplugs, and with this being the pain in the ass car it is, has no sparkplug wires. it has 2 coilpacks on each side of the engine. My question is, is getting a coilpack going to fix this problem, and if not what else could be causing my misfire, and what can i do to fix this myself?

ust another detail, the serpentine belt is on the left side looking head on the engine. And if anyone knows where the timing belt is on the engine, I am just curious on the whereabouts are of it.

I have replaced the plug, compression very good, replaced coil pack, replaced injector, replaced the pcm. I just can't find the problem. I sprayed carb cleaner over the intake gasket.

I just can't seem to find the problem current is going to the injector. I crossed the plug and the wire works. Any suggestions?

I have a 2002 Mercury Sable GS. My check engine light has been on for quite some time, and every time I get it hooked up to the machine I get the DTC Code P0316. The code means engine misfire detected on start up (first 1000 revolutions). What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Hi,

I have a Lincoln Navigator 1998 5,4L 4WD and made a change of the cold air intake. Two days after the change, I noticed that my car is riding without power and misfiring.

An electronic check revealed my opinion as it says, that the 6th cylinder is failing (or misfiring). Has this something to do with the change and could there be the MAF be involved?

Thanks

01 Chevy Silverado. Why would a newly overhauled engine run rich?

Just finished engine overhaul(OH) of 4.3 liter v6 on 01 Silverado. At initial start-up it's running rich and missing. The truck sat for 6 months but ran good before OH. Plugs are new, starts great, runs rough. Other problem is auto tranny won't go into gear. Fluids are full. Service engine light is on, I'm guessing from oxygen sensor(at least). Any suggestions to fix the engine misfire(rich fuel mixture)? Whats the easiest way to tell if an injector is leaking? Thanks for your help.

2002 Pontiac Montana with intermittent misfire, can't diagnose.

2002 Montana with 3.4L, FWD, engine has intermittent misfire especially around 1500RPM. Once the engine block heats up, the misfire tends to fade away but does not always disappear. It is starting to get worse after driving with the problem for about 1000 miles. Have replaced ignition plugs, cables, coils and ignition module, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. The only code that pops up is a misfire code - duh. I'm starting to think crankshaft sensor - is there any way to diagnose that? What else to look at? 150,000 miles. Fuel system flushed at 110,000.
