1980 C20 3/4 ton Chevrolet truck. Replace driveline seal.

I took the motor out and as I did the transmission was lifted and moved forward. The driveline slid out of the transmission and fluid ran out of the rear. I was going to replace the rubber tip on the end of the driveline. Is the trany ok and do I just need to set it back in place and top off with transmission fluid?

Why does my '83 Chevy G20 van (with the 700R4) NOT lock up at highway speeds?

Transmission question: I have a 1983 G20 van with a 305 and a 700R4 behind it. The lockup clutch isn't working in 4th gear at highway speeds. It does lock up at around 35 mph (kinda low speed for that) and lugs the motor until you put your foot in it and it comes alive once again. From that point on, it doesn't lock up anymore. I have 3 wires coming out of the trans on the driver's side, Blue, yellow and green. With the key in the 'on' position, the blue lit the test light brightly and had 12 + volts, the yellow wire lit the test light dimly, and the green wire had no current at all.

As per a relative who owns a transmission shop, I tried looping the yellow and green to get the converter to lock manually. No luck - it popped a fuse. It sounds like a solenoid or a pressure switch is shorted. Any ideas?

I have an '86 Chev C-20 2WD gasoline 5.7L V8 4-speed manual truck that does not show on the fueleconomy.gov list.

Based on the Edmunds chart it should probably be considered at Category 2 truck and possibly eligible for the full $4500.

It has a title GVW of 6000.

Thoughts?
