Replaced freeze plug on 87 Chevy Camaro Iroc. Noticed excess rust in cooling chamber. Will a flush get it out,or not?

I dropped a piece of the freeze plug into the motor, was able to retrieve it with a magnet. With the magnet out came a bunch of rust.Small pieces almost like sand. Will a flush at a service station get all the rust out? Or does the motor need to be disasembled? I plan on rebuilding or replacing the motor soon, but wanted to drive some until more $$$ comes my way. I know I have an exhaust valve that sticks, other than Marvel Mystery Oil, or a quart of trans fluid in the motor for a short time, is there any other way to free up the sticking valve? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I worked in a service station, and was told to drill a 1/4 inch hole just in front of the cat. installed a vacuum gauge into the hole, got in the car, raised it up on the hoist, then held engine at 2000 RPM while another mechanic watched the gauge. I've been told if the gauge stays at the same mark you're OK. But it it twitches every half a second or so ypu have a exh valve sticking. The motors balance is off, and it's not timing related. When revving I get a little valve knock, loss of throttle response. Not the power that should be there.

Chevy Camaro Iroc Z valve rust in cooling system

That really sounds great. I will try that first thing in the morning. My other question is about the rust in the cooling chambers. I recently replaced a freeze plug, and dropped a small piece if it into the motor. I was able to retrieve the piece of metal with a magnet. But with the piece of metal, I am getting fine rust particles, almost like sand, coming out from inside the cooling chamber on the front of the motor. It's not sand because the magnet is picking it up. But my question is, will a service station flush and fill effectively remove these deposits? Or does the motor need to be removed and hot tanked (rebuilt) to get all this corrosion out? I've gotten a total amount of rust about the size of a golf ball total so far, and that's just in the first 10 inches or so of the motor. The radiator was replaced in 95' so I an unsure of the condition of the original radiator. The original was only 8 years old so I assume it hadn't rusted out. It was also painted in 95', so I assume it was hit in the front.

We recently bought a 1983 Camaro Z28 HO and have not been able to find any repair manuals or anything about it. It has a 700R4 transmission, supposedly with a lock-up converter. The engine is a L69 HO and we need specs and cam lift and duration, things like that. Thanks for the help.

I have a 2000 camaro that just had all four rotors and pads replaced. Immediately once the car got moving there was a pulsating screeching chatter coming from all for wheel wells. It almost sounds like a drum or rotor does when they're on a lathe being trued.

the front right ball joint was worn and they claim that it broke when they lifted the car which is understandable but they then told me that my front rotor was messed up and i wasn't able to drive the car home. I had it towed to a mechanic ive know for a long time and he said that the rotor was rubbing against the rim because of a bent strut and bent spindle. the original business denies damaging my vehicle but i don't understand how a spindle or strut could bend under normal driving conditions without being dropped or jammed.

My son purchased his first (used) car. A '97 Chevy Camaro. The oil light went on and he stopped at a auto parts store. The person in the store suggested he put synthetic oil in it. My son followed his advice (2 quarts)and now I am wondering if this is going to damage anything as it is my understanding that regular and synthetic should not be mixed. Thanks in advance. (He drove quite a distance before I learned of this).

My 93 Z28 has been dying on me intermittently. It starts back up when it feels like it. I had it in the shop and paid good money for a fuel pump. I still have the problem. The mechanic told me the sending unit was seperate from the fuel pump for that year, and would cost another $330. He said he didn't think I needed it, so I opted not to have one installed. The car still dies.....the strange thing is, when it dies (or as soon as it starts to die) the gas gauge shoots to way past full. Has anyone heard of this before. Please help!

I have a pinhole leak in a fuel line to a 1997 Camaro. My Chevy dealer says this item is discontinued. Any ideas?

This is a supply line going into the engine block. There is a pinhole leak about 3 inches before it hits the engine block. My local dealer says there is none to be had anywhere, not at any Chevy dealer in the nation. I checked a few local (Southern Cal) high performance Camaro garages, they have fuel lines but nothing newer than 1992. The line is high pressure rubber hose, rated for 80 psi (I think). For now, just to get down the road, I'm gonna clamp a larger rubberized hose around the leak and hope for the best.
Anyone ever seen this before? I know it's crucial to be prudent here with spraying gas around the engine block, I'm not looking for a quick fix, I want to make this right. Any advice is greatly appreciated...

- Mark

1982 Chevy Camaro Z28. Idles perfect, timing perfect, but when I put it in gear it cuts off. WHY?

I have a 1982 Camaro Z28 that was passed on to me from my step-mom that passed. She bought it a while back. the only thing that we know about the maro is that it has a SBC 350 bored .040 over and has Vortec heads, and a rough cam. dont know the cam size, valve size, anything. it also has a 700R4 tranny but the stall converter is unknown. the cars timing is Perfect Right on the money. starts right up, no hesitation. after a few minutes it will idle on its own. i have it set to a 1,200 idle figuring that when i shift it in gear it wont cut off. it still does. oh and it has a Holley 750cfm double pumper manual choke. edlbrock dual plain intake mani. i am clueless on what would cause it. i've been told MANY things from diff people but every other person i talk to will cancel out what the previous person said. i need a REALLY expert mechanic to tell me the possible problems. Thank you for whomever answers.

Chevy Camaro Iroc Z sticking valve...rust in the cooling chambers

I apologize I was misspoken, it was a pressure gauge, and we did get a jump in the reading. I will try a vacuum gauge on the intake and see if I can establish it that way. If it indeed is sticking is there a temporary fix to free up the lifter? Some have recommended Marvel Mystery in the engine, or running Dextron (a quart) in the motor for 20 miles, then draining engine, then fresh oil change. I intend on replacing the motor within a year with a crate from GM. But I am moving in a month, and would like to drive the car the 35 miles to the new house. It was my daily driver 2 years ago. A freeze plug went bad, and I had another car to drive, gas shot up in $$$ so it's been sitting. It starts right up, but once warmed up if I rap on the gas I get a hesitation (slight) and in higher RPM's almost a diesel engine sound. Thats the best way I can describe the sound. My original posted question was about the rust in the motor in the cooling chambers. I recently replaced the freeze plug, after sticking a magnet in the motor. I'm getting allot of fine rust(almost like sand)coming out on the magnet. Will a service station flush and fill efficiently remove these deposits? Or must I remove the motor completely and have hot tanked to remove all the deposits? I know it was hit in the front in 95 and got a new radiator, that is still in decent shape (other than the crap running through it!) Thanks for your help.

So I added a wire on the back of the cluster to a screw that would ground the lamps and the other end to the firewall. The lamps and the fuel gauge work now. The park lamps are still the same - with the lamp switch in the park position they come on - in the headlamp position they go out.

We changed the opti-spark dist. cap, plugs and wires, fuel filter, 4 mass air flow sensors, have ran fuel additive with preminum gas, the EGR has been disabled, no cats, no downstream O2 sensors, magnaflow exhaust, please help we can't figure it out and we have took it to 8 different mechanics. When you hook it up to a scan tool it reads mass air flow but have put 4 different ones on.
