I'm finding the chilton manual too hard to follow. I would love to know of a repair manual for an 86 chevy c10 with a 305 engine that is more explicit than the chilton manual and requires no prior knowledge of auto mechanics.

Injecting gear oil into a rear end on my Chevy C-10.

I installed an '87 Blazer rear end into my '85 Chevy C-10 pickup. Due to a mismatch in the u-joint we spilled the gear oil out of the rear end. I have resolved that problem with a new bastard joint. I cannot get the drain plug out. Can I put gear oil in via the vent line until I can get to a garage to get the plug out? I am guessing one bottle of Lucas 80-90 weight gear oil. Any problems or suggestions?

'85 Chevy K-10 brake problem.

I have opened the fittings on the front disc brakes, one at a time, and noted fluid as soon as they cracked. Since I am alone I cannot put pressure on the pedal, just the pressure in the master. I left the top off of the master and depressed the pedal just to make sure there was travel and there was, along with the geyser. Even though the rear brakes have an open line I still cannot get pedal travel. I used a syringe and pushed air into the rear brake chamber and brake fluid came out of the open line at midships on the truck. I guess I just don't understand this whole system but it seems that fluid should be running right through the rear brake line without any pressure since it is cut and open. Thanks for your previous help.

My truck is a 1981 Chevy K-10 that was originally a diesel truck that now has a 350V8 in it. The things that aren't working with my electrical system is My taillights, brakelights, rear turn signals, hazards, front side markers, all interior lights, all instrument panel gauges. What works with the electrical system is the headlights and the front turn signals. It has no radio in it but I have one that I'm going to put in it and I'm going to add an amplifier and subwoofer to the truck and want to make sure that the wiring can handle this.
On a 1976 Chevy Scottsdale C10, are there any other VIN locations (besides door frame)?

When the body work was done the VIN plate was removed, when it was replaced the wrong style rivets were used(round head instead of star),glove box was also redone. I have to find some other location on the truck where they might be.

Highway Patrol will not issue a title transfer unless I can find another VIN , I might have to go through the expense and effort to petition for a Quiet Title. Vin plate is a bona fide number, just has the wrong type rivets.

I know they are stamped somewhere else, but after days of wire brushing and degreasing I have not been able to find it.VINS did not have specified locations and required amount of numbers starting after 1981.

Thank You for reading and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I own a 1984 Chevy Scottsdale c-10 2 wheel drive 305 350 4 speed automatic with a edelbrock 650 carb my problem is that i recently moved to North Dakota and my gas tank is now a frozen chunk of gas, i filled the tank up all the way before i parked it the next morning i tried starting it the engine fired and turned over but didn't start. I tried to turn it over again but i wasnt getting no gas i checked the clear fuel filter going to the main steel line on my edelbrock is was bone dry so i tapped the gas tank and it was a solid thud, what can i do to dethough my gas * besides never getting cheap water gas again * i have a garage so if i put my truck in it and run a small electric heater by the tank will this work also it wont cause it to blow up will it?

I have a 1978 Chevy truck that I don't drive very often. Every time I park it for any length of time ( could be 2 weeks or 1 year) the coil and ignition module burn out. So far rebuilt the harness, distributor, cleaned all the grounds and cut all unnecessary wiring out of the cab ( radio, gauges etc.) Also It was burning up the battery, but I finally put a tender on it. I am thinking ignition switch, but really have no idea. Just looking for ideas and stuff to test. Any ideas would be great. THANKS ERIC

I have replaced the rear diff and filled with Lucas gear oil, in my '85 Chevy K-10(4WD) stick shift. What fluids do I put in the transfer case and how do I check the level? I have been told Dexron II transmission fluid and to put my pinky in and should get wet.
