2008 Prius Touring Navigation System WILL NOT LET ME INPUT MY STREET OR HOUSE ADDRESS?

Has anyone else had problems with the Navigation System NOT Recognizing their own street address? Our subdivision is 15 years old, and the streets were mapped and platted out at it's inception. Our County Road Maps show this street, as do the local telephone book maps? MY NAV. SYSTEM DOES NOT?
After checking with the dealer and Toyota, we DO have the latest update disc so that's not the issue. I even gave them the compass coordinates, but the system STILL DOES NOT RECOGNIZE OUR STREET ADDRESS? It shows our street as being in an undeveloped area. The system also tells us I quote.
"Turn by Turn Directions ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS AREA, Please use line of sight to find your home destination" It knows area but NOT our street?
Any thoughts you may have on this are welcome. I am baffled on this one!

We are going to purchase an 08 Avalon Ltd. What are your thoughts on the DVD nav as opposed to a plugin Garmin? I like the ease of the Garmin. My local dealer does not have an Avy in stock with the system, but will get one if I purchase. I would have to drive 150 miles to drive one.

does anyone know if a nav system from a 2003-04 navigator will fit a 2003 aviator with a 6 cd changer. My dealer says that they are different part numbers so therefore they are not interchangeable, but one local stereo shop claims that they could be not sure. I need certainty before purchasing one from ebay. thank you

Is it wiser to purchase a mobile navigation system instead of purchasing new DVD's for the factory system each year?

The simple way to say it is "the Nissan system DVD's stink". We purchased a DVD for our navigation system last year to update it on new roads. Our previous DVD did not have a lot of the roads that already existed and we had been driving on for months, some years.

We purchased the new DVD and a lot of the major roads did not exist, even toll roads, which had been there for more than a year. We were very disappointed. So I called about getting a download or an update and I was told that I had to spend an additional $190 for a new disc. Outrageous. It is apparent that each year we will have to spend an additional $200 for another outdated disc. I think that is unfair and unreasonable. People should be aware that a simple market GPS system runs between $200-$400. I believe that is where I will purchase my next "disc".

I really like having my system as part of my vehicle but not if it is inadequate and inefficient. Gas is too high to get lost each time you use your expensive navigation system.

I hope they can fix the problem, but I would advise as many as possible to purchase a mobile mobile unit that is updated regularly (Free) by satellite.

Am I wrong - some one let me know.

Car's great, GPS really sucks though, hate the toggle and no touchscreen. Compared to my 07 TL, the Nav is quite dated, any way you can replace it with a newer version, ever heard of doing this?

How do you disable the nanny features on the Ford Edge navigation system? I like the Ford Nav system, but I hate the "nanny" features that keep you from making changes while the car is in motion. Does anyone know of a way to disable the nanny system?

Hello! I'm considering pruchasing the 2008 Toyota Highlander with navigation. I've searched high and low for reviews of the navigation system with no luck. Anyone able to provide links or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. We've got a 2006 Honda Accord with nav, and are quite happy with its features and abilities. I've heard that Toyota nav cannot be used while the car is in motion -- how ridiculous is that? I know it's a safety feature, but come on! That limitation alone may influence us not to get the nav and opt for a portable GPS instead, but I'm all ears, and would love to get some input about the OEM navigation systems from Toyota.

Thanks for your reply to my question. Sorry but your answer is not correct. Zenrin stopped support for the "CD" formatted Nav system in 2005 and switched to "DVD" format. Pity the poor guy (or Gal) who purchased the last model equiped (2004?) with a "CD" system. Nissan customer service told me, Sorry, but it is what it is and your request to have us ask Zenrin (a sub of Nissan)to come out with an updated CD or an update to your Nav System is herein denied. Now... my system is out-of-date, no other map maker has a disk that will work in a Nissan system and Nissan doesn't care one way or the other. I can't even order the newer "DVD" system from the factory to fit my car. Nissan will also not consider providing a "retro fit" or upgrade unit. My vehicle is a 2001 so at least I got a few years of service out of it but it's of little value now. As to re-sale.. the system is of no value at all. Thanks a lot Nissan!!

The navigation system of the Mercedes-Benz STINKS. It gives you these pre-defined categories from you to select where you want to go. But, it's been my experience that the places I need to go are NOT defined in any category. Therefore, it's mostly been USELESS to me. It's a $2000+ feature that that my wifes' $300 Garmin runs circle around. Example: Find the nearest Baby Funiture Store. Hmmmm...There's no category for Baby Furniture or ANY Furniture. Garmin...Just type in "Furniture" and all sorts of things start to populate your menu.

Navigation map spins like a gyroscope; it revolves around the small circle with a triangle in it which indicates the position of the car on the map; also, the north-south compass in the upper left hand corner of the map continually spins as well; the navigation is unusable with the roads, streets, cities, etc. just rotating; Has anyone come across this problem and do you have any solutions, suggestions, or ideas? Re Nissan Navigation system. After only a few years of product support Zenrin USA (Nissan's nav software supplier) discontinued CD software support (having switched to DVD's in 2005). Nissan doesn't seem to care one way or the other and Zenrin says they will come out with a updated CD only if Nissan requests it. Is there anyone out there who has a nav CD that will work in the earlier Nissan (CD) Nav Systems? As it is, the system I paid dearly for is of little value now.

owner's manual states its on the rearview mirror but it's not older models made prior to October 2007 have it on the rearview mirror.

I just bought my 2008 Toyota Avalon LTD three weeks ago and found that the easiest way to input a new destination was by phone number (page 34 in the 2008 Navigation System Owner's Manual). I had driven a 2000 Avalon since I bought it in 2000, and this is my first navigation system. I was out of town when I first used this feature and it worked fine. Now when I try to input a destination by phone number, I get a message in a white box that states, NO CORRESPONDING PHONE NUMBER. I know I must be missing something simple, but the manual is no help and I have spoken to two different dealerships "experts" who did not even know you could input a destination by phone number. Can someone help?

I asked the question earlier about input of a destination by phone number in my 2008 Toyota Avalon. The "No corresponding phone no." response comes up on the screen on all numbers I try. It doesn't matter if it is a business or a personal number. It happens every time. The navigation manual doesn't help and no one at the dealerships in Oklahoma City seems to know. Can someone help?

My 2002 Camry has built in Navigation (Denso) that has suddenly stopped reading the disc. The screen flashes "Cannot read disc". I have tried cleaning the DVD and the unit itself, but to no avail.

I just bought a used 2006 Acura TL with Nav system last Friday. I cannot get the voice commands to work. I was able to get my bluetooth phone operational in the car; that's working fine. I cannot hear a voice for the GPS, nor can I get any voice reaction to commands such as "radio on" or "heat off". Please help. I don't have the op manual, but have been reading it on line. Also, the clock in the top display does not work and is off by 3 hours. I was told it must be re-set by the dealer. True?

What is the latest edition of the Chrysler Crossfire navigation cds.

It would appear that Toyota mapping details are very outdated for 2008. After reading other online forums it would seem other Toyota Prius buyers are finding the same problem that I have quickly discovered in my NAV system purchased April 2008. In Southern Ontario, Canada major arterial streets and residential roads that are more than five years old have not been updated on software version 7.1. Toyota wants me the new vehicle purchaser to buy at $300.00 an updated version when it comes out possibly in December 2008. Will this too be outdated? The salesman, dealer and Toyota Canada have all been notified by me of the above outdated software. Ontario updates listed by the manufacturer shown to me by the dealer seem very vague compared to the US details but I gather Americans and Canadian Prius purchasers are having the same outdated software problem.

Has anybody been able to resolve problems with their 2008 Honda Accord's voice recognition system, legally/otherwise?

My system has trouble recognizing voice commands I give it, phone numbers, radio channel, fan speed, etc. Honda techicians have same problems, with no answers coming from Honda America....unless we've both missed something. At this point, I'm considering the lemon law.

I see that there are navigation overriding techniques for older Sienna's and was wondering if 2007 Sienna Limited has one. Quite a silly idea for Toyota to install system that cannot operate easily while moving. I suppose no one travels in a 7 passsenger minivan with a passenger seat traveler to operate system. Also I noticed that the '08 Sienna navigation has a night screen for the Navigation. Is this the first year that they have this option? Thanks in advancce for your help

I live in Bay City, Michigan. Streets that have been around for 30+ years are showing as uncharted on Ridgeline GPS. I went to dealer - they aren't much help. My cheap old Garmin does better finding locations than the Ridgeline one does.

I recently purchased a used 2006 Mercury Milan, and it came with the 6 speaker default (low-end) stereo system 6CD Changer. I own a 2005 Dodge Magnum with a factory installed navigation system. I've own the car two weeks. I recently purchased on line an updated navigation disc to replace the original. There are no instructions telling me how to remove the original disc so I can replace it with the upgrade. I can see where the disc go, but I don't know how to remove it.
