2002 ford zx-2/it has about 95,000 miles. When driving for about fifteen minutes all electrical systems shut down for about 2 to 4 seconds including the engine. The radio dial lights appear to blink seconds before everything cuts out. The first time this problem started I had just lowered the power window on the drivers side and the radio went off for a second or two then came back on.?????????

1998 ZX2 Ford Escort. Replacing head and exhaust manifold. Need studs. Ford says they dont have them. Any advice?

When replacing the exhaust manifold some of the rusty old studs were broken. Ford claims they dont make them anymore? Does any one know where we can find such items? All the salvage yards are too busy to deal in these small items and claim to throw them away. Also where would I find out the exact size and type of stud to use if I find a salesperson?

Just bought 97 escort with only 47,000 miles, however, front suspension parts have bad rust (problem living in snow area). So thinking before all crushed I would go get some replacement parts to kep on hand. Are the 98, 99,. 2000 and 01 all same exact parts for suspension and frame etc?

Also, if know any on line salvage yards that have Escort parts, glad to know? May even need to buy the rear and front transmission insulator and part.com wants $90 a piece for them.

rick

This is the metal piece that protects lines as they turn up toward engine. Mine is rusted bad, and can not locate another. Ford no longer carries. Salvage yards not interested. I imagine same part for Tracer and escort to about year 2001.
I have a '96 Ford Escort LX, 1.9L. It is currently in the auto shop. The car does not start. About a week before it died, there was a strange grinding sound when I put the clutch to the floor. It seems that it caused my started to engage. It's my understanding that some of the wiring inside the clutch housing could be affecting this. What can be done to get my car back on the road?

Within a mile of driving, the temperature gauge begins to climb, then pegs within a couple minutes. Was having antifreeze smelling smoke coming from defroster, so I bypassed the heater core. Problem persists. Changed the thermostat. Problem persists. Filled the radiator, and started the car to level the coolant, and it gurgles and backflows out of the spout. Do I have a bad water pump? I keep having to refill the coolant, but have NO visible leaks (so where is it going?). The erservoir is always full. Whenever I do fill my radiator, I get steam from my tailpipe for three or four minutes, but it doesnt smell. Some steam, or smoke is coming from my water pump shroud area. The radiator is clean, but always-no matter how long it idles or drives-cold to the touch. The fan is working, in fact, its always running when the engine is. There is no water (coolant) in my oil, and no oil in my coolant. I'm sorry this is so long, but I need my car to keep my job. Anybody out there know what I can do to save my car? Thank you for your time.

Hi there. My ford escort had a problem on saterday(it was raining) that its electrics and the car just turned off, then it turned on again but loads of smoke came from the wire coming from the battery turminal and is mounted to the car body(must be a earth wire). it is quite a thick wire. the car started again and then today, the car went totally dead with lots more smoke.the wire seems to be pritty burnt up? im 22 and dont have enough cash to send in so i need to try and fix it my self. when i turn the car on now, one of the lights on the dashboard turn on but slowly fades away and nothing else works including starting the car etc etc. the indicator unit also makes a funny buzzing sound now????

After driving for 15 minutes, the vent on my Ford Escort ZX2 suddenly stops blowing.

I first noticed this problem in the summer - I'd been driving on the highway with the AC on high for about 30 minutes, when suddenly no air was being blown through the vents at all (cold or otherwise). I took the car in to the shop and they checked the AC system and recharged it. When I picked up the car, the fan and the AC worked fine for about 30 minutes, but then once again no air at all was blowing through the vents. Now it's winter, and the same thing happens when I have the heat turned on in my car. It happens most often when I'm driving on the highway for more than 30 minutes. The fan blows warm air for about 30 minutes and then suddenly stops blowing altogether. Nothing I try while the car is running can get it to start blowing again. I've tried turning the fan dial to different vent settings (floor, floor and dash, defrost, etc.), I've turned the fan off entirely for 10 minutes and then tried it again, etc. It still SOUNDS like the fan is blowing, but when you put your hand against the vent, you can feel only the SLIGHTEST bit of warm air coming out of the vent, even though the fan is set to high. Also, I've noticed that when the fan stops blowing, it stops blowing through ALL of the vents, without exception.

The only thing that (temporarily) fixes the problem is turning off the car, letting it cool down completely, and then turning it back on. Here's an example: the problem was happening yesterday for most of our four-hour drive home from Thanksgiving. Then, when I started the car this morning (after the car had sat all night) the heater was blowing hot air full force again!

We had the thermostat replaced on the car about a year ago because the heater wasn't heating the car properly (it was only blowing lukewarm air). After the thermostat was replaced, the heater warmed up the car just fine. This new no-air-coming-through-the-vent problem started happening occasionally about six months after the thermostat was replaced. Not sure if that is relevant or not but I thought I'd mention it. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I have fuel, compression, spark and volts, i've replaced the EDIS and the coil pack. I have fuel at the fuel rail and my timing is good. I have been working on vehicles a very long time, so has my dad and we are both stumped, so, any suggestions on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ford Escort ZX2 worth getting fixed?

I have a 99 automatic ford escort zx2 that has a little over 165,000 miles on it. The transmission just went on it and it also has a gasket leak (the mechanic said that he couldn't find the leak) and an exhaust leak. I'm wondering if its even worth it to fix the car or if I should just go buy another one.

93 Escort. Loping at stop signs after it's warmed up, not as bad after it's real warmed up, but still does it. I upped the idle a bit, but I know that's not the real problem. The check engine light is on too. EGR valve or something? Maybe vacuum related? It's my mother-in-law's car so I don't get to see it that much.
