I have driven the truck just over 4000 miles since the first brake pad replacement was done. 2 weeks ago, the pedal got stiff and I lost my braking ability. I ordered a new pair of calipers believing that one of them had a seized piston from the feeling I had on one calipers during the first brake replacement. After slowly driving truck to brake in pads, I still have a stiff pedal and lousy braking ability! Warning light still comes on. What have I overlooked?

I am going to buy a Ford F 350 4x4 (srw). I want the 4.10 rear differential with limited slip. Would adding the traction control option be useful? Will the traction control system apply braking to a spinning front wheel. would a limited slip rear end and traction control on a 4x4 be redundant?

Replaced injection pump, fuel supply ok. Glow plug circuit operating normally. Engine cranking speed ok, 11 volts at fuel shut off valve during cranking, volts to cold start valve ok. Engine was idling and just shut down and won't restart. What am I missing? Have no comprssion gauge so not able to test compression. Timing marks at crankshaft and injection pump are lined up. Can see the injection pump gears turning with cover removed from front of engine. Did not remove glow plugs and watch them glow but all read around 1.3 ohm's. Power was tested with volt meter only and it showed 12 volts pulsating with the key on until system timed out.

Cheapest fix for oil pan leak on 7.3 ltr Ford F-350 Turbo Diesel V8? Is pulling the engine out the ONLY way to fix this leak?

Most repair shops (including Ford) are quoting at least 10hrs of labor to fix a $20-50 dollar leak on these 1993-2000 7.3 Turbo Diesel Oil Pan Leak. Mine is a 1995 F350 XLT extra cab 4x2.

Is there any other options available that'll solve this leak. My job was quoted at 13hrs of labor to R&R engine! My pan isn't damaged in any way, only the seal around it simply broke down and now has the leak and also light leakage from the dip-stick base was seen. Also included in the fix rate.
This is crazy! Nearly $1500 to fix a $20 pan leak??!!

Anyone? Ideas please? Cheaper hourly rate shops that'll do it in the Fresno CA area LOL!
Help me here!

My F-350 7.3l diesel lost all oil causing the engine to shut down,it took 3/10 mile to get off hwy as i was pulling a 7000lb camper, truck came to stop loud noise (clunk) from tranny area. vehicle towed to garage, plug reinstalled and filled with oil. left garage about 6 miles down road noticed hood loose stopped closed hood, vehicle would move. towed to Ford garage tranny pulled, oneway clutch shattered. Is it possible that loss of engine oil would have caused caused tranny failure.

Restarted the truck with no problem, but when put into gear, it would not engage. Park and Neutrel both seem to be working fine, just no go when you put in Reverse or any other gear. We were told may be the transmission pump, had no problems with the way the truck was running up to this point. Any ideas would be helpful.

Okay my F350 has been an awesome truck and it's my baby. Recently I went outside and noticed antifreeze on the driveway I crawled under can't locate a leak anywhere. I drove the vehicle and then placed a pan under the vehicle that night to see how much it was leaking got like 5 drops in the pan yet when I drive down the road I can smell antifreeze like it's leaking on the engine. There is no antifreeze in the oil (Thank God). Any place else I should look or advice?

The only thing we've done differently is the Lucas. Started (white) smoking and lost power. The engine runs, but oil runs out of the tailpipe. Dipstick says oil level is correct. Notified Lucas but so far have not heard from them.

Are Ford F-350's good, reliable, strong running pickups?

I am looking at 1997 Ford F-350 diesel, 4X4, 4dr, long box. It has 285,000 miles on it. The current owners have a 'contract', if you will, so every six months they take to the mechanics shop. They have everything checked, if something is wrong it is not simply fixed, it is completely replaced. The transmission is in good condition, and they even have transmission from another pickup that they are willing to well with it. I was wondering if these are good reliable long lasting pickups, and if this would be a good buy? They want $5000 or best offer. Am I stupid for considering this? Thanks Shayne

Brake pedal hard until you reach 30-40 mph; think vacuum problem. Ford F-350

1990 Ford F350 7.3 diesel
My brake pedal got rock hard as I was pulling into a gas station. Checked fluid (ok) the brakes did work but very hard to stop (like no power brakes only worse) we were 100 miles from home and decided to try and make it home. When we got up to about 40 mph the pedal returned to normal and brakes worked fine. Slow down no brakes speed up and they work. I checked vacuum coming off vacuum pump and at idle only about ½ “ of vacuum. Rev up to about 1500 rpm and vacuum gauge went up to about 10 “, step on brake pedal and gauge drops to zero. (Also been having problem with sometimes hard/delayed shifting from 2nd – 3rd gear.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What should vacuum gauge read at idle?

Do diesel engines use any manifold vacuum?
Our Ford F-350 was wrecked and Travelers only wants to replace one rear tire. Truck has 8k miles. Is this right?

Our Ford F350 was struck in the rear by a 250 going about 60-65 MPH. Our truck was parked. It is an 08 with 8k miles. Basically brand new. We have had terrible problems with the insurance co of the person driving the 250 - Travelers. We now have new truck pymts and a pieced back together truck. They only want to replace one rear tire that was badly damaged on a bent wheel. We have ALWAYS replaced tires in at least pairs - passanger cars, and sets of four on our trucks as we pull a fifth wheel and uniloader at times. Any advise would be appreciated!

Ford F-350 transmission shifts hard after driving about 1 hour.

Hi all,

My 1990 ford f350 transmission is acting up. First let me give some history. The truck is only used 15-20 time a year. Has slipping problem about 15 months ago. Had trans rebuilt. After about 1 year seemed to be having problems when shifting mainly from 2nd to 3rd took back to trans shop. They said mid shift bearing and rear axel bearings were bad. Had repairs done. Used truck locally several times and shifted great. Went on longer trip and noticed some delay when shifting from 2nd – 3rd. took back and they replaced trans vacuum (cant remember name of part) on engine with vacuum hose going to trans.

Still shifting problem 2nd – 3rd also noise when down shifting.

Ford test drove and said seemed ok. (at this time I had not realized it was not happening until truck got warmed up)

Realized on last trip that it does not start until truck is run for an hour or so.

Shifts great when cool but after warms up there is sort of a delay when shifting from 2nd – 3rd. (when it shifts you get bounced back in seat, kind of like delay in shifting. Makes noise when downshifting )

I am afraid to go back to original trans shop after 2-3 visits they have only replaced more parts

Thanks
Jim

The radiator is overflowing anti-freeze and the anti-freeze is cloudy and lumpy.I replaced the cap and no luck. I recently(4 weeks ago) replaced the thermostat because it went bad. I'm thinking I may have a blown head gasket, but I,ve read about "wet stacking" and that Ford has an "automatic idle controller" for this problem. The enging has never got hot or anything to cause the head gasket to go bad. I have had this truck for over 1 1/2 years and it has 129,000 miles on it.
