My recently purchased 06 Freestyle needs something to jazz it up. Raised white letter tires might help but can't find them for that size tires.

Strut Replacement - Ford Freestyle

Thanks for the article and quick reply to my question. Some concerns about the struts are in order, from day 1.

The original Continentals were very cupped after 30k mi. I still have them. This would indicate the struts were shot from the factory.

The ride is very tight, with minimal degredation (that I can remember) from the start. Perhaps I do not notice much, but the cupping then noise pattern with this third set of tires is now familiar.

Never replaced the struts on the 2001 Honda Accord (200k mi) or 1996 Grand Prix (140 k mi). Tires lasted 55 to 65 k mi on both vehicles.

Thoughts?

=H

2006 Ford Freestyle. 100K miles, 3rd set of tires. All cupped at 30k or so. Continental set twice, Goodyear Triple Tread now. Why?

2006 Ford Freestyle - SEL FWD

Every set of tires has cupped with substantial noise by 30k, before the wear bars. Conti's (stock) x2, and now Goodyear Triple treads, with 35k mi. All were rotated, and inflated to recommended, with alignments.

One place says the shocks/struts are weak and causing the problem. I think not, unless they were bad from the factory.

Smooth pavement - get a substantial rumble/hum from the tires. Worse after rotating.

Thoughts?

Can anyone tell me if $6000 is out of line? Can i do better than this? I cannot afford $6000, nor can i sell it, i am upside down.

How do I to check if a "dead" stereo on my Ford Freestyle is really broken or just has a bad electrical connection?

My 05 stereo suddenly went dead with no power. I checked the fuses and they are fine. I want to check if the problem is actually a broken radio or if it's just a bad connection or wire. How can I determine this without the dealership's $90 diagnostic fee?

Thanks Tony78. I have been easily able to remove my radio from the console and can access the back of the radio. I haven't taken the wires from the back, yet. The clock in the radio does not work either and the radio does not turn on with the key in the ignition in the on, accessory, or off positions. There is seemingly no power to the entire clock/radio/6-cd changing unit. How might I test the radio at this point? Do I need to take it out and take it to an audio supply store to get it checked? If it's dead, can I just buy another model that would fit and then re-attach the pin leads that come out of the original?

Still working on Ford Freestyle Radio

Thank again for your response. It's a big help. When removed, the radio/cd/clock is all one unit, rather than 2 or 3 separate ones. I'll take it back out later today to test the wiring. Since I have no apparent power to any part of the unit when the key is on or off, how can I tell which wires are for the radio or cd player or the clock?... Are the colors particular to the specific parts or the unit? I know that green is usually a ground but since there are many more different colored wires than in a light fixture (where it's just white and black) I'm not sure I'm I can tell which one is which. Also, if it does turn out to be the wiring rather than the radio unit itself, would it be best at that point to have professionals complete the repair? I would guess so, but wanted to check that as well.

Thanks again!
Anybody have a reset sequence that works?
Also am looking at servicing the CVT, it is apparent that they made that near impossible outside the dealership and at over $300.00 for a fluid and filter change very expensive too boot.. hipirn

Ford Freestyle water leaks, how do I avoid buying a leaker?

I would like to buy a used Freestyle but have discovered that some have serious interior water leaks?? Water running out of the shoulder belt mounting points, out of the CD player, filling up the floor pans and spare tire wells etc. How do I avoid a leaker?? I am trying to narrow down the problem.

Are the water problems associated with a certain trim package only?
Sunroof? Rear a/c unit? etc.

I have read that the problem might be due to bad welds on the roof panels under the roof racks and not related to sunroof. Any comments?

Are all Freestyles (for Canada and the USA) produced in the same plant or is there more than one production site and if so is it possible that the leakers come from one plant only?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

'06 Ford Freestyle buyback? Dealer telling me car needs new engine, costs $6800. Tranny issue I think. Buyback?

They can't find prob for sure. Alternate between blaming me for not changing oil soon enough, to a computer issue. Dealer has tested everything, sensors, PCM, coils, wiring. Claims now it is either timing chain issue (cost 1600) or whole new engine is needed (6800). Has had my car in 2 times for 4 weeks. Still not fixed. Engine light wont go off-acceleration probs (has lost acceleration), weird noises coming from engine, like loose belt. Some fluid leaks. Acceleration when just put into reverse. They cant get the engine light to go off. Dealer claims if they find oil sludge in internal engine, it will need to be replaced. However, my issues sound just like others in the forums. Can i get the dealer to help with cost or buyback my FS? I cannot afford a new engine. Thanks.

2005 Ford Freestyle. Does this vehicle have steel frame construction underneat or laminated unitized body?

a friend with a 2005 Ford Freestyle vehicle had an acident and was told the frame was bent. I did not think this vehicle had a steel frame as part of the construction. I thought most all american cars had a somewhat unitized body consisting of sheet metal construction. Is there a steel frame construction on this vehicle. I thought the steel frame went out in the 1970's except for some special cars mostly muscle cars. I await your response. If the unitized body is what is being refered to, how do you fix that or does it not get fixed? The vehicle was hit broadside on the driver side at about the front tire. The damage was approximately $10,000.00. Should this have been considered totalled?

05 Ford Freestyle radio went dead.

The reason I ask is because mine went dead 3 days ago. One minute it was working, we turned the key off went into a store came out turned on the car and it was dead. There was no radio, clock, or DVD player. After reading your previous questions and answers I'm not sure it is worth the hassle to replace the fuses. What would you recommend ? I am not looking forward to having to pay the dealer right now.
