Do I replace trans or is there a cheaper way? The truck has 185,000 runs good until recently started to jerk and sputter if I dont let it warm up first. Then Friday it started slipping in 2nd going into 3rd but not anywhere else.So do I need new trannie or is there a simpler fix that wont cost a fortune? If it does need replacing how much does it cost and what options do I have.Me being female puts me at a disadvantage but I can change my own brakes and minor stuff but I dont want someone taking advantage of me because of limited knowledge

My friend changed the brake pads on his 1999 Ford Ranger 4WD and for some reason he removed the brake lines. Now the brake goes clear to the floor until it is pumped several times. Is there something he can do to fix this?

2003 Ford Ranger Reg Cab 2WD - With all the tires on the market, which do I choose? P225/70R15

Currently have 55k miles and will be keeping the truck till at least 100k when warranty runs out... so I'd like a 50k-60k tire. Most of my driving is on road, but I take this truck camping a lot and find myself on gravel and dirt roads. I want a road tire, with a little toughness to it (cant really justify a light truck/suv tire). There are so many brands: Mastercraft, Michelin, Firestone, Bridgestone, Primewell, Futura, Good Year... which do I choose. I would like to spend in the medium range... not cheap, but not the expensive ones.

I'm not getting spark outside of the motor when I pull the plug out
1995 Ford Ranger 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

I have done a full brake job on my ranger. New calipers, wheel cylinders, new rotors, new drums. New complete rear brake lines. When I bleed the brakes I could not get a pedal, no matter how much I bleed them. So I got a new master cylinder and installed it. I still only get minor pedal when the brakes are bleed. I have done my own brakes for years and never had a problem like this. Also I am a maintenance supervisor @ a industrial company so working on machines is not new to me.

Any suggestions?

98 ranger 4 cylinder, standard. Recently my check engine light came on. About a week or two later the engine wouldn't return to idle speed when I pushed in on the clutch. The engine stays at about 1800 rpm for 10-15 seconds, then revs a little higher, then returns to idle speed. It doesn't happen on cool days. It only happens if I've been driving it for about 20 minutes on a warm day. Other than this problem it seems to run pretty good.

I have to tap it on with hammer, but when it goes on, the hub will not spin. What am I doing wrong? I even took everything back off and put it back together, still the same thing. I even made sure that the tensioner was twisted all of the way in. It is my mother's only transportation, so I need an answer quickly. PLEASE!!!!!!!!

The brakes on my 2001 Ford Ranger sometimes lock up at about 1 mile per hour. The rotors are not damaged, the pads are not contaminated, the brakes work great most of the time. All the info I've found on the forums suggest that one or more of the wheel speed sensors may be defective. Is it feasible to simply disconnect these sensors and deactivate the ABS system intirely?

Remove both front wheels."

I do not understand what role this plays in replacing the PS Pump. Any ideas? Is this really a necessary step?
What do I need to do to flat tow a 2008 Ford Ranger FX4 w/auto, V6, 4WD and electronic transfer case shifter?

The owner's manual says a manual trans 4WD Ranger can be flat towed no problem but its wording is less clear for an automatic transmission Ranger with 4WD. Also, I'm not asking about a tow bar set up, which are available.

After changing my clutch in my 1994 Ford Ranger 2WD, I can't get the hydraulics to pressurize using forward and back bleed method.

Hi I recently changed the clutch disk and pressure plate in my 1994 Ford Ranger. I can't get the clutch to pressurize using the forward and back bleed method. There are no leaks and the fluid is clean. When I took off the old clutch I marked all points of return contact and cleaned all necessary areas for a solid fit. What should I try next to get the clutch pressurized? Oh yeah my son left the vehicle in reverse gear on the manual tranny and it will not disengage.

I have a knocking/banging noise in my '03 Ranger Edge. I believe it's steering related, as I think I actually feel something through the steering wheel. I listened to my mechanic, who thought it was brakes. They've been replaced. Then he suggested A-arms or shocks. Had Upper A-arms, stabilizer bushings and stabilizer link kits installed, along with 4 new shocks. Noise is still there. Best way to feel/hear the noise is idling across a parking lot such as Lowe's. Need help. Otherwise it has been an absolutely wonderful truck that I want to drive another 2-3 years.

What is the correct rear end for a 1999 Ford Ranger 4WD Supercab?

What is the correct rear end for a 1999 Ford Ranger 4WD Supercab?

What would the effect of having a rear with a different gear ratio be, in 2WD and 4WD?

Could that damage any of the other drive train components?

I had the rear replaced by a mechanic and the bill says he used a 410.

Then I had an accident and the body shop under instructions from the insurance adjuster used a rear with a different gear ratio.

I am now having problems. hence my questions.
