Transfer case vacuum switch has three poles. There is a protrusion between two of the poles. A marker???
95 GMC Jimmy spark between the mounting bracket arcing off the transmission filler.

Well I have looked all over and found no answers but I have found others with this same exact problem. I mean the same. They each have the spark between the mounting bracket arcing off the tranny filler the very same problem and I still have not found an answer. I did think of something however, since the map sensor partly controls fuel and timming would it advance the timming too much and cause it to do this? Or would a alt that is not at stock output make the coil produce too much. Now I have replaced the spyder assembly still runs rich and loads up. Still stumped.

It idles at 1000-1200 RPM cold or hot, it always starts and has been running great. While on a longer trip I lost most power when I give it lots of gas, when I get past about a 1/3rd of the pedal it starts to spit and sputter. Now it will just die on me while I am driving, I lose power and have to stop. I have learned that i do not have to stop all I have to so is turn the key off then back on and I have power again. I have been told it could be the MAF or the MAP sensor, I do not want to just drop money and parts without knowing what is the problem. Also I have been told that engine does not have a MAF, can anyone help with my problem?
Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the response, the codes that are coming up are 44 and 35, I jumped termanal A to B and got the engine light flsh codes. I did preform a starting fluid spray test and could the engine did not surge but i was going to try tha again. also I have another test I am going to do which causes the ICV to stick open which will also tel me weather or not there is an vacuum leak. That is going to help me with the high Idle but the engine stopping is where i am lost, and when I turn it off then back on and it works fine makes me point to a sensor or controler abecause it is almost like it resets itself. Again thanks for you help. Also I am a mechanice so i can do most tests myself but I am just at a loss. When I get to work I am going to go onto michell and alldata pro to see if i can find anything in there.

Thanks Mike

It idles at 1000-1200 RPM cold or hot, it always starts and has been running great.
8 months & 4000 miles ago I had a remanufactured GM trans put in my 1993 GMC S-15 Jimmy (Third Gear went out)Now the trans fluid is passing from the trans to the transfer case & exiting a vacuum line. GM will not honor the warranty because they say the seal involved is in the transfer case not the transmission itself is this true & is there only one shaft seal between the trans & transfer case?

Also don't you think a reputable mechanic would have replaced the seal in question given the vehicle was 12 years. old & over 100,000 miles? Thank You

I recently purchased an 83 GMC Jimmy 4x4 S15. Its the 2.8l V6 2bbr 4spd man trans. I purchased it with the knowledge that the clutch was out. I get it home, I pushed the clutch in and I was able to start the truck.

I can put it in every gear except 1st. BUT...it wont drive at all...no matter what gear I put it in. Even when everything's in neutral, and I let the clutch out it dies. It's like it's stuck in 1st. The driveline's out so it shouldn't be dying anyway. This is the my second Jimmy. My other one's a 98 and I love it. I don't want to get rid of this one! Can you please help me?

The engine is running with the security light on but the remote door unlock switch doesn't work. The jumper goes from Yellow to Green with White Stripe.

I don't have a wiring diagram for the vehicle so I cannot tell what is missing.

I can start my car, and it will run fine for about 10 or 15 mins. Then it will start putting down/dogging out or stalling. But if i put it in neutral, turn it off for about a min, then start it back up it will run fine. I have replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter about four times, i have tested iginiton module, and it tested fine. I've also replaced spider injectors, distbutor, rotor and cap, along with the coil. It has cycles, it will run as explained above, then it will run fine for a few weeks, then just start shutting off while driving. And repeats itself all over again.
1993 GMC Jimmy starts great but idles down almost to stall. Oil dipstick is really hot. How to fix?

Year ago had new fuel pump put in. There was also a problem with battery and battery cable. Replaced battery. Great for awhile. Replaced alternator. 2nd one lasted 8 months. We just put a new one on yesterday.

Had oil changed last week but still idles down to almost stall, has stopped on me a few times before replacing alternator. Oil stick is really really hot! Replaced hose from radiator to engine (or wherever it goes, I'm a woman, I don't know)...but that is hot as well as the new alternator. Put in a new battery this last month. It seems the engine is just getting too hot even though it's not that hot on the engine itself.

The replaced radiator hose is not the same shape exactly as original. Also replaced brakes a couple weeks ago. I've read other places perhaps a vacuum leak could cause all this? Help... I have places to go. Thank you very much.

1994 GMC S15 Jimmy completely lost first gear and overdrive!

94 Jimmy, motor vin code W, automatic transmission with push button 4WD. Initially had transfer case get stuck in 4-HI this past winter. No biggie I live in Michigan so we needed it anyways. Never drove over 45 or on dry pavement. Then transmission started to lose gears. First gear came and went a few times then lost it permanently as well as Overdrive. Transmission will not shift at all on its own. I can manually shift it on the column between 2ND and Drive but can't get into either other forward gear. Reverse works fine.

I replaced transmission and transfer case a few months ago. Transfer case works great but the TRANSMISSION is doing the same thing as the last one did. Kicking manifold absolute pressure switch code as well as a couple of shift solenoid codes. The replacement transmission was in a driving vehicle before I put it in. The transmission is fine. I clear the codes and put it in Drive, it will take off from first but wont come back down when the vehicle stops. Kinda irritated and could use some knowledge please!

P.S. Could you make it a cheap fix if possible? And please don't say wiring

I have been having an intermittent electrical problem. My gauges will just go out and dash lights. I will be doing 60 and the car will miss a little, but keep going. The gauges will jump back up and the car will do a systems check while I am doing 60. Today I started the car and no gauges and a service engine code for component slipping in transmission. Nothing is slipping, but that code is stored and keeps coming back. Today after I started and got no gauges, I shifted into gear and I got the gauges back and a service engine code(the slipping component again and I drove to work with no overdrive) Tried to have a new BCM installed that I bought online to no avail, but the car was nice and warm and dry. Drove home with the code gone, overdrive, and all my gauges. Happens most after a car wash when it goes down to zero degrees.

What did I do wrong? I can't get my GMC Jimmy to shift into drive!

I got a P1870 code on my 1996 GMC Jimmy and decided to fix it myself. I bought one of those repair kits and replaced parts of the control valve and put everything back together but now the shift linkage is off. I tried to adjust it according to my repair manual and all I can get the vehicle to shift into is P,R,N but no further. Before I take it to a shop (which you can probably tell I'd rather not do) what can I do to get the shifting back like it was? I feel like I'm missing something simple and I want to try everything before giving it to someone else.

If the gas pedal is pushed till the tach hits 2000 rpms it will start to move slowly in drive. Fluid level is good please help with suggestions, this one has me puzzled. I have the battery cable off right now, gonna try that route now.

Brake pedal goes soft on my GMC Jimmy after hitting hard bumps or pot holes in the road. Any ideas?

I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy. I hit a hard bump on the interstate and my break pedal went soft and hardly had any brakes. Brake pads were replaced and all was good for 4 days until I went down a side street under construction and hit more pot holes and rough patches in the road. Once again, soft break pedal with hardly any brakes. "Reputable" dealer said, and I quote, "Left Brake hose was twisted/kinked from previous brake job. Removed calliper and untwisted hose and also noticed brake fluid with excessive carbon buildup due to possible master cylinder internal seal wear. Recommend brake flush and master cylinder due by mileage." The funny thing is that the problem started before the previous brake job. I think I was the one that was hosed. Any ideas as to why the brake pedal may have gone soft after hitting rough patches in the road?

GMC Jimmy brakes hard to press, mushy, little stopping power.

'94 GMC Jimmy - brakes would screech when coming to a stop; daughter's vehicle; drove it myself and was appalled at how bad the brakes were. Just finished changing pads and shoes, and had rotors/drums turned (no more screeching). But what has me really concerned is that you have to press VERY hard to actuate the brakes (as if the power assist is not working at all), and at 1st it feels really mushy but then the power assist seems to kick in partially, but after short order that diminishes. I'm thinking there's air in the line, but even that doesn't explain the difficulty in pressing down on the brake peddle. Chk'd the vacuum going to the power assist unit - and a vacuum is definitely present. Power Assist unit gone south, maybe?
