Oil weight for Silverado

1. Even though it calls for 5W30 GM dealerships are using 10W30, is it because of the climate. We live in west texas. I have 10W30 in all my vehicles because I heard of a recall on the Castrol GTX 5W30 oil. And I prefer Castrol GTX. I called GM and they know nothing of the recall. And now I'm in the process of changing out all the vehicles to 5W30 again. Since you answered my question.

I'm confused about weights of oil, what is the difference between 5W30 and 10W30?

I had a 99 Silverado with a 6liter and put 10W30 in it according to the temperatures in the owners manual. Wouldn't it be the same on my 2007 8.1liter GMC Sierra? My 6liter had 190,000 miles on it and never burned oil.

Just began like a month ago, have almost 90,000 on it. Went to a auto shop and had a computer reading done and says nothing wrong?? Sometimes the truck dies cause the idle drops too low. this only happens when im parking going slow. auto shop guy sugested it was the idle control part but he couldn't find the part for the vehicle told me i'd have to go to chevy dealer. Just seein if yall have any clues of what it might be before i go hand my paychecks over to a Chevy Dealer to fix this???

THE TRUCK IS AUTOMATIC AND SHIFTS AND DRIVES GOOD, WHEN IN ANY OF THE DRIVE GEARS. WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE, IT WON'T MOVE AT ALL.

I have a 97 gmc 1500 4.3 that has a miss. Any suggestions? I have replaced all the usual suspects!

It doesn't do it all the time. Only on cold wet days. I have checked all the wires, replaced plugs rotor cap fuel filter. Any good ideas before I take it to the dealer?

Differential leak one month after service. GMC Sierra 1500.

2005 Sierra 1500 with 54000 miles. Taken into GMC dealer service shop about two months ago for the differential fluid drain and replace service.

Last week I noticed oil leaking from somewhere. I couldn't pinpoint the leak so during oil change the same service techs said it was the differential pinion seal.

I estimate the leak to be about 3 to 4 weeks old by the amount of oil under truck and in driveway and street. Is this something possibly caused by the service tech by over filling or not possible?

2007 GMC Sierra 8.1L which oil to use 10W 30 or 5W 30, need to know.

While cold, this revs up then sputters and practically dies. It takes a great while to quit doing this. Could it be a fuel filter or related to the cold otherwise?

Would you please advise me how to figure out what has broken or came loose on my tailgate latch? It has been working just fine for years, and yesterday I couldn't lower it. Also, how do I lower it with a broken lock?

My 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500HD kills the battery if it sits unused for 3-4 days. This has been an ongoing issue since day one.

I have had a problem with the battery dying if the truck is not used for more than 3-4 days, I have had the dealer do extensive checks...nothing...

GM has intervened. Nothing. I want to upgrade to a bigger battery, but the space where the battery is won't allow it...we have changed the battery 2 or 3 times now, and the problem persists. Anyone having this issue, and if so, how did you fix it. The truck has almost all available options, so it is power hungry, but it still should not be dying like this when it is not used

How often must the oil be changed in a 4 cylinder 2005 ?

2003 4.3 litre, v6...replaced gas cap thinking gasket was bad and causing engine to not get vaccuum needed from gas tank; replaced air filter; put truck on dyno, said nothing wrong...mechanic says i just got bad gas. he corrected codes, light went out, drove great for 27 miles, then light came back on and motor running crappy again...help!

Are the Chevrolet Hybrid pickups available yet, and if so, where? What kinds of reviews do they receive?

I have a 2003 Chevy 1500HD 4x4 with Quadrasteer, the vehicle has 98,000 miles. I am looking at extended warranty for 24,000 or 36,000 miles. Wonder if the 6.0 V8 has an inherent problem with either the cooling or fuel systems? This is only covered in the 24,000 plan. I’ve had problems with a 1996 Chevy 1ton 4x4 that I previous owned and wonder if these problems are still present in the 6.0 engine.

My Chevy 1500HD is giving me a warning and sound to alert me to the low oil presure. However, it runs will and i tried changing out the o rings and oil pump but it still give me a waring sound of oil presure low.

Can you beef up a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500HD to tow like a 2500? Thanks.

What is the difference between a 2002 1500 HD and the 2002 2500 as far as towing capacity? Can the 1500HD be made to tow like the 2500? I am buying a trailer and do not really want to purchase a larger truck if I can help it. I love my 2002 C/C S/B 1500 HD and the 2500.

[edit] I need additional towing capacity to 12000 lbs

I do want to keep the 1500hd if I can but can not pull the weight of the new 5th wheel I want. Can I do something to the existing truck to make this possible?

Factory trailer wiring plug. The only power coming out of the plug is taillights. Is there a fuse for the rest?

On the factory trailer plug all I have is the park/tailghts. All the fuses appear to be good. is there a relay or something I'm missing? or does the tow switch on the shift lever have to be on to activate the trailer package?

2001 Chevy 1500HD with 4 position push button 4WD on dash, the usual 3 and a auto 4WD button, model 246 transfer case and L480E transmission. previous owner said that while he was "on the throttle" he heard a "clunk" when it went to engage to 4WD. everything outside the transfer case seems to be doing what its supposed to (font end engages, transmission engages when in low, etc) something internal in transfer case must be wrong correct? any ideas? don't mind doing work myself to keep cost down if not too complex

I have a 1962 Willys pickup with a 6 cyl Hurricane engine. About 3 or 4 years ago I noticed that some of the spark plugs quit firing. I put new ones in and the engine ran fine then after a couple of tanks of gas some of the plugs would quit firing. Here is the weird part. If the a plug quits firing and I pull the spark plug wire off and hold it about a quarter inch from the top of the plug it will start firing fine but as soon as I touch the wire to the plug it will quit firing. Anyone got any ideas. I have put new points and condensor in about a year ago and it did not seem to help.

I want to know what Edmunds said about an 1984 Ford F-150 when it was new.

In 1967 before being discharged from the Air Force I purchased a 1967 Chevelle SS396.i drove it home to Ma. and had it registered in Ma until 1969 I then traded it for a Nova.I have regretted it ever since.I would like to know if:

1. does the vehicle still exist?

2. where is it.

3. Is it for sale. How can I trace this vehicle I have the serial #, but when I put it in online for a car history report it won't take the serial # it is too short.

My 98 Chevy Silverado 100,000 miles suddenly didn't start. It clicked once every time we turn the key. We put a new battery in and a new starter. The starter checked out ok at the shop. We cleaned the battery terminals ran a wire from positive down to the starter no luck. What is going on?
