1995 GMC Sierra 2500 6.5L turbo diesel 200,000 km. Starts easily from cold but refuses to restart when hot.

Truck starts well from cold but now I dare not stop the engine once I am running and the engine is hot. It will not restart. The batteries evenually die. If I recharge the batteries and let the engine go cold it will restart easily. Both fuel pumps and starter motor were changed about 15,000km ago. The air and fuel filters are new. The injectors are OK according to my mechanic. Both batteries and alternator were replaces in the last year. When we crank over the HOT engine there is fuel at the filter. I don't know if there is fuel at the injectors. There is no grey smoke from the exhaust when we crank the hot engine. We bought the truck 4 years ago. We found it always acted up in summer but up till now "three cranks" would restart a hot engine. Now this summer it just cranks away until the batteries are flat.

Reliability? Trans? Expensive to repair? Gas mileage? It has had a lot of upgrades put in to it about $12,000 total with a rebuilt engine, trans with shift kit, new and bigger colling system, phaser 2, #8 turbo?, Gear drive, and Bosch injectors. Good or bad? You tell me. Thanks

Rough shift after using overdrive going over 60 mph. GMC Sierra 2500 4 X 4 gas. Why?

Hi there,

I've got a GMC year 2000 model 2500 p/up 4X4 gas engine.

When I go over 60 mph using OverDrive, then when I slow down and it goes back to 3rd gear, subsequently it will go back to O/D as I speed up. When it shift back up, it's a slam hard shift.

If I slow to a stop, then it's a super slam hard shift from first to 2nd, and then the remaining upshifts.

Now, if I pull over and turn the motor off for a couple of minutes, then turn back on and go, it's fine as long as I don't get up to 60 mph. AND, if I leave it in 3rd gear without going into O/D, it's allright and the problem doesn't come up.

So, it's only in O/D and above 60 mph....

What to do?

Thanks,

Gordon

GMC 2000 Sierra 4x4, 3/4 tn, 6 l with 260KKM. When I accelerate I get a buzzing from the transmission like valve chatter at 80 Km and about 1700 rpm. If I punch the gas and downshift the buzzing stops and I can accerate to higher speeds fine and then continue in overdrive at 110 km/hr. Occasionally this also happens at 100KM/hr and about 2000 RPM.

A transmission flush has not fixed the problem and Mr Goodwrench recommends transmission replacment. Help.

2003 GMC with Duramax started then went dead and would not crank back up.

I have a 2003 GMC with the 6.6 Duramax. Yesterday I started it up before work and walked in the house. On my way back to the truck it just died. It would not start back up. That afternoon I tried again and still no luck. I sprayed starting fluid in the air cleaner and it cranked up and ran fine. After shutting it down it was hard to get it started again (with no spray). I don't know if it's losing pressure through an air leak or it's the fuel pump. Anybody have an ideas?

1. Even though it calls for 5W30 GM dealerships are using 10W30, is it because of the climate. We live in west texas. I have 10W30 in all my vehicles because I heard of a recall on the Castrol GTX 5W30 oil. And I prefer Castrol GTX. I called GM and they know nothing of the recall. And now I'm in the process of changing out all the vehicles to 5W30 again. Since you answered my question.

My trans started shifting abnormally (intermittently), not shifting into OD till 50-55 mph and shifting out of OD at about 50-55 mph.I took it to a trans shop and they said it needed rebuilt so I let them rebuild it.Its still doesn't shift like it should and its intermittent so it wont act up when I take it back for the shop to look at.these are my symptoms.

#1 the OD light stopped working,it used to flicker when it got real wet and rainy but now it dont come on at all, the switch still turns on and off the OD though (only the light doesn't work).

#2 at times trans wont shift into OD till 50-55 mph and wont stay in OD below 50-55 mph. (seems to be more common with heavy acceleration)this is intermittent and doesn't do it all the time.sometimes the trans works fine.

#3 sometimes when you start from a dead stop it feels like its not in the lowest gear.(feels like your pulling a big trailer up a hill) then you will feel it shift to a lower gear and it seems ok.

#4 sometimes trans seems to be slipping from a dead stop and then it locks up. the rpm may go up to 1000 to 2000 rpm and then it locks up.(I notice this the most when I'm just starting the truck to go somewhere)

Hi... anyone know how to install an NP8 encoder motor? The cam on the transfer case is nearly, but not quite lined up for installation. I've heard not to turn the motor electrically while it's off of the truck, so somehow I have to turn the cam on the transfer case. I put the truck in neutral off of the ground but this cam won't move much.. .feels mushy. Am I doing something wrong? I just need to move it a little bit.. :) Thanks!!

This rattle only seems to be when under load or acceleration, does it in all gears. My Dealer can not tell me if this is Normal or not as they do not see many of these transmissions. This rattle started around 20,000 miles, I now have 32,000 and it has not got any worse. Can anyone tell me if this is normal with these transmissions?

Thanks

I have been hearing what sounded like an exhaust leak. Now the engine light is on and truck is running rough. My mechanic says I have a cracked exhaust manifold. How common is this on Dodge rams? Don't think this should have happened with only 62,000 mi on truck. Truck has had regular manitenance. Oil changed every 3500 mi. Dodge has already replaced the front end. I have had to replace the steering box. Lots of expensive problems.

The transmision is in a 1998 2500 dodge with a diesel. I didn't do anything with the valve body. just took it off then put it back on. when i rebuilt the tranny the clutches were very badly worn and they had been slipping. Everything went together very nice, i thought. When i put the truck in reverse it acts like it wants to but nothing. From Neutral on the truck goes foward.

When the truck is cold it works fine, once the truck has warmed up (15-20min) it starts showing problems. When I put it into reverse to back out of wherever then put it back into drive, the transmission doesn't want to shift into second, sometimes i can get it to shift if i rev the engine up enough, then i have to do it all over again to get it to shift into 3rd gear. If i stop the truck and shift it into park then back into drive it will work fine like nothing was ever wrong, that is until i have to shift into reverse again. Once the truck cools down it works fine. Any ideas?
I recently purchased a 1994 dodge 2500 it has 206 K, it drove fine during the test drive, on the way home it started to hesitate sputter and then just died. I thought at first it was the IAC controller or the TPS sensor. I replaced both and it is still doing it. It seems like the temp sensor is shutting down the car when it gets to temp. any ideas before I take it to the shop and pay through my teeth.

98 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ Cummins and 5 speed manual transmission makes squishing noise when starting out in cold weather.

When starting out in cold weather, there is a very noticeable squishing noise coming from the transmission. It sounds to me like the oil is squishing out between the gears. It only does it when starting out. Once you are above about 10 mph the noise goes away. Then when you stop at a light it does the same thing again. The truck has 167700 miles on it. Once it is driven a few miles the noise goes away. The trans fluid was changed with no change in the noise. I have also noticed that it is a little harder to shift from neutral to 1st gear than it used to be. If the temperature is warm outside, it makes no noise at all. This is a recent problem, even though the weather has been cooler in Northern Nevada for some time.

the tranny was rebuilt 3 years ago. it runs great doesn't leak oil on the ground it shifts a little hard from 2 to third but not enough to bother me. Sort-of like a manual valve body or shift kit. the truck has a little over 200,000 miles. I'm a pretty fair wrench and it sounds like some of you here know what you're talking about, a rare thing nowadays. thanks

Fuel pump control circuit fault? Dodge Ram 2500.

2004.5 ram 2500 CTD 325/600 HO----was merging into highway traffic at about 3/4 throttle and engine died. Pulled over and got it fired back up and drove it on home. No engine check lights or anything came up no the dash that would have indicated a problem. Ran fine all the way home(about 36 miles). Hooked a code reader up and got a fault code P0628 that indicated "fuel pump A control circuit low". Is this a fuel pick-up pump problem that I could fix myself, or perhaps something the dealer needs to look at? Any suggestions guys?

Like I said when I'm stuck my rear tires spin but my dash says I'm in four high. When driving on the highway it feels like I'm in four wheel drive and burns gas like being in 4 high. I try to shift into 2 wheel or 4 low and it keeps putting me in 4 hi. Any ideas on what this could be?
When I and driving my 2005 Dodge 2500 Diesel the engine will die and then start right back up. The speedometer, RPM's and engine temperature will all drop to "0" and then in about 2 seconds it starts right back up. This happens on both the highway and in town. No engine warning lights come on during this. Our local repair shop check the on board computer and they found a message that said "temporary loss of memory", but nothing else. This happened 20 times in 30 miles. Help!
