Had vacuum leak fixed and plugged in on transfer case. Drove 3000 miles without problem. Then noise came back. Unplugged elec connector at transfer case and noise is gone.
Re: Amerilite 21MB towed with GMC Sonoma. Would tow 50 miles on flat country road & back 12 times per summer?

Sonoma 2001 has GU6 3.42 axle and 29,000 miles on it.
Gulf Stream Amerilite 21MB camper weighs 3,300 pounds and we would put no more than 300 pounds in it, likely less. We buy groceries when we get there and do not haul water. We camp at the same place all the time, one hour from home, 50 miles one way, and get there on 2 lane country roads with light traffic. Would it be crazy to buy this camper and think we could pull it with our Sonoma? Booklet says it can pull 6,000 pounds... but I just don't know; this is a small truck. We have no hitch now and would have to have one mounted to the truck. Dealer said we would not need a transmission cooler; is that true? All info, opinions and experiences appreciated. Thanks for any help.

1998 GMC Sonoma 4x4. I've suddenly got 3/8" of free play in the steering wheel; there was none before. Help?

The free play seemed to happen rather suddenly. Gripping the steering wheel shaft with slip joint pliers on the rubber sleeve seems to stop the play. Gripping the shaft above or below the rubber sleeve does not stop the play. There is movement in the shaft when pushed and pulled side to side but I can't tell if the loosness is just above the power steering box or where the shaft comes through the firewall. Where are the steering wheel shaft universal joints? Is there a common area where these wear out? Is there any chance this is not in the shaft but can be eliminated by adjusting the screw on the power steering box, if one exists?
Thanks

I have 3.73 gears and need better fuel economy. It has a 5.7 TBI, 700R4 with 4th being .7:1. I get 13mpg and this is my daily driver. Looking at 3.08 as a swap, just need reassurance this is the best course of action. One person suggested 2.73, but I can't find a housing with those in it. I don't have the knowledge to change the ring and pinion, nor the money to have it done. I can, however, change the whole rear axle. I was told camaro and Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada rear axles would fit. Any thoughts?

I have been working on a 1999 GMC 2.2 4 cylinder motor that I have taken the head off. I brought it to the machine shop to resurface and now need to know if I will have to use the head saver shim when replacing the head. This motor does not have the over head cam so I am thinking as long as the valve and piston have a clearance it shouldn't matter much.

What about the push rods/lifters/cam? Any suggestion on this would help!

1991 GMC Sonoma with new fuel pump, relay and module yet no fuel to injectors. More details follow.

The daughters 1991 GMC Sonoma with a 2.8L V-6 died on the side of the road and was towed home. A friend of hers put in a spare battery he had, checked the fuel pump relay, said it was bad, wiggled it and the truck started. She bought a new battery, put a few miles on the vehicle that night, next day a few more miles then another tow home. She bought a new relay which I replaced with no success. I heard no fuel pump noise and lowered the tank. Another "helper" showed up, I handed him a tester and he said I had voltage to the pump. So I replaced it. Hit the key and it wouldn't start. I listened for the fuel pump and heard no noise. I tested the old pumpto find it worked fine. Checked power to the tank with a Multi-meter to find 5 volts and that my helper didn't realize a dim bulb meant low voltage. I checked the wires from tank to hood, no breaks or fuse links. Pulled apart the multi-pin connector on the firewall to find it full of axle grease instead of dielectric grease. Cleaned with contact cleaner, re-assembled, hit the key, heard the fuel pump, nothing. Pulled the fuel filter, got a shower of gas, replaced filter (the old one clogged so badly it wouldn't pass air). Hit the switch, nothing. Checked voltage at tank and it was back to 5 volts. Removed and re-cleaned connector, still nothing. Put the charger on the new battery. Tested Ignition Module at the parts store. It was defective so I replaced it and still nothing. I've cleaned grounds and checked terminations (after I ran a wire from the battery to the disconnect on the fuel pump0. Still nothing. I probably fried the new fuel pump with all of the twisting and tugging. I know that was a lot to digest. Tomorrow evening I'll drop the tank again and try again. HELP ME PLEASE, My hair is gone! Thanks

I have a 2000 GMC Sonoma truck with a 4 cylinder engine with 35000 miles on it which i bought new. The security light lit up in the dash about 2 years ago. The truck has no security system that i know of and never has had one. The light stays on the whole time that the key is on. I have checked every thing on the truck and nothing is wrong with and it runs as good as when it was new. My mechanic says not to worry about it and that it must be a glitch in the computor but it glares in my face and is driving me nuts. Does anyone out there know an easy way to get this light to go out without costing a fortune.
Our Automatic 2002 GMC Sonoma's reverse stopped today! We barely drive it and went to take it in for emissions. We stopped for gas and then when we started to go the first gear sounded crazy so we pulled over (crazy=loud boom then whine like a turning sound). Then suddenly the reverse does nothing!

The truck is just 2,000 miles shy of 100,000 miles. We have never changed the transmission fluid. It isn't the right color but doesn't smell burnt - it looks CLEAR? 1st, 2nd and 3rd works - 1st acting funny when it slows way down like stopping at a stop sign. It is in our garage and can not go into reverse.

We bought some transmission cleaner fluid and some 1 qt of fluid just to see and well it sounds better still NOTHING when in reverse.

As it shifts it quiets down, shifts correctly and runs fine.

The oil pressure gauge is fluctuating wildly and the first gear noise increases when the gauge reads 20 but as the pressure rises to about 60 things operates fine. The oil gauge stays around 60 running and drops as i slow to a stop.

I've tried this running hot and running cold / the same.

Is this something i should have a mechanic look at?

I've checked my fluid levels and everything seems ship shape.

I'm trying very hard to stay out of the mechanics garage.

I have a 95 Sonoma 4.3 liter 4x4. I am looking for another transfer case and transmission swap that I can do. I cannot find this one 3550 transmission that I need for this truck. What other transfer case and transmission sets can I use that will be easier for me to find and buy? This is a 5 speed by the way.
