1997 Hyundai Tiburon with auto tranny. Tranny over revs about 800 RPM when shifting fron 2nd to 3rd gear when cold. After car warms up it shifts properly. No problems with 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th either cold or warm. I've changed out the transmision fluid (used ATF+ 4)

My new clutch is slipping at high rpms. Why?

I recently purchased a stage 1 clutch for my 2000 tiburon and had it installed at a shop after my old clutch finally went out. It drives fine, but I notice that while shifting at 4000+ rpms the clutch seems to take a second or more to fully engage even when the pedal is completely released. Why is that?

1997 Tiburon transmission slips when cold between 2nd and 3rd gear?

1997 Hyundai Tiburon w/ 1.8 engine - Not sure of the terminology but the automatic transmission allows the engine to rev when shifting between 2nd to 3rd when cold. I would equate this to pushing in the clutch without letting up on the gas in a manual tranny. When the car gets to the natural shift point, instead of dropping into 3rd gear, the engine will rev up an additional 800-1000 RPM (actually over reving depends on how hard you are pushing the car - the harder you are accelerating the higher it over revs between the shift) and then drops into 3rd gear. This symptom goes away after the car warms up and does not occur except when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

im a soldier, stationed in belgium. my 2004 tiburon GT shifter moves freely, without engaging the clutch. when i went to shift it a month ago, i felt like a snap. car does not shift now, and is sitting collecting dust. local mechanic said it was the clutch, and cost $3,000.00. damn! but, i feel its a linkage, or cable snapped. if it is, i cannot find the part anywhere. whats your take on this? car has around 60,000 miles

1997 Hyundai Tiburon 1.8 engine - Car starts fine and run at about 1100-1000 RPM but shortly after starting (about 1-2 minutes) the idle will drop to around 600-700 RPM and the car acts like it is about to stall. After it warms up the RPM returns to a normal 900 RPM and runs fine after that. How is the cold idle controlled on this car and is it adjustable? If it is, where is it and how do I adjust it?

It apears I need to adjust the time it stays engaged as it works fine when I first start the car but drops out before the car it sufficiently warmed up.

I have a Tiburon here in my auto shop class and we are trying to open the trunk but when we press the trunk release switch it activates but will not release the hatchback. So therefore we need to open it manually. How can I do so? There is not a key lock on the door. We have crawled inside the cars hatchback and we looked in the square hole to look around for a release lever but all we get is the solenoid and just medal pieces. So how do I open it manually?

I would most appreciate it for good advice. We have tried everything but no cigar.

So thank you very much.

Strange idle problem

I really have no clue where to start with this - with the weather being cold most cars idle a bit high until the engine gets warm. My tiburon was normally a little over 1,000 rpms in this scenario. Now it's idling upwards of 2,000 when it first starts. It drives fine, but once the engine has time to warm up and the idling drops to the proper 900-1000 range it bounces for a bit then stalls unless I give it gas.

After the engine warms and I stop the car for about ten seconds, then start it again, it seems to run like normal. I haven't tested this for a long period of time because I really don't want to be driving my car while it has a potential of stalling randomly. Any ideas?

Does it make sense that 03-05 Hyundai Tiburons average $3k more in Omaha than in Denver? I think it's a conspiracy!

I'm in the market for a good used 03-05 Tibby. Don't care if it's stick or slushbox, 4-banger or V6. Just whatever ends up being the best deal.

But on Autotrader & elsewhere, the asking prices here in Omaha are outrageous! Like, 50% higher than the TMV, adjusted for ZIP and everything (it's a negative-$2 adjustment for ZIP, btw). I have a feeling that if I walk into a dealer and say "I'll offer you 60% of your asking price" they're just going to laugh me out of the place.

I checked prices in Denver just out of curiosity and they average about $2k less. Granted there are more on the market in Denver, but we're not talking 200 vs. 10, we're talking 20 to 10. And the average sale price on eBay (not counting salvage/fixable) is barely Private Party TMV nationwide. Largely due to the whole Internet factor - but still.

So is there some sort of price-fixing going on in Omaha or what?

I know the worst a dealer can say to my first offer is "no," but what is the likelihood that they'll come anywhere near TMV when they start out so high?

My 2003 Hyundai Tiburon has been very good to me for the 6+ years I've had it, no really issues. However, the other day it suddenly overheated and stalled out. It would not start after that so I had it towed to a garage. The guy at the garage, after looking at it, told me that I would need to replace the engine. But I read somewhere that the computer may just need to be reset, does anybody know anything about this?

i have a 03 Tiburon and the clutch is slipping. I took out the delay valve and spring from the slave cylinder, and bled the lines and it seems to be slipping more now then before. Can or should I replace the old part with new ones? I was told to leave old parts out, it will do no harm.

what will it cost to replace the whole clutch system for a 03 Tiburon and do they have a new clutch that will last?
