My 2005 yukon xl is having speedometer problems. What is my best bet to fix this?

I will be driving along and look down to see that I'm going 0mph on the freeway. It will stay at 0 or be about 20 mph under what I think the speed is. It doesn't do this on every driving trip, but enough that it is becoming a problem. The local dealership wants $600 to replace the instrument panel to fix the problem. Isn't this something GMC should be covering?

Do I need to worry about water dripping from my tailpipe?

I have a 98 Jimmy 90,000 miles. When climbing a large/long hill, at the top the car starts this loud whining/grinding noise. (almost like an airplane coming in for a landing) Continues till I pull over and stop completely, then I hear a pop and it goes away. Does not happen all the time, but getting more pronounced lately. Help!!

I have pressed this button for the 5 second rule but as soon as I get my truck steering wheel either way lock to lock and spin the tires really fast as to not get stuck the ST light flashes and the brakes pulsate a bit but the good thing is the engine does not idle down anymore.

Do you think there is a problem or is this the way it should work.

1. Even though it calls for 5W30 GM dealerships are using 10W30, is it because of the climate. We live in west texas. I have 10W30 in all my vehicles because I heard of a recall on the Castrol GTX 5W30 oil. And I prefer Castrol GTX. I called GM and they know nothing of the recall. And now I'm in the process of changing out all the vehicles to 5W30 again. Since you answered my question.

I'm confused about weights of oil, what is the difference between 5W30 and 10W30?

I had a 99 Silverado with a 6liter and put 10W30 in it according to the temperatures in the owners manual. Wouldn't it be the same on my 2007 8.1liter GMC Sierra? My 6liter had 190,000 miles on it and never burned oil.

I have been having an intermittent electrical problem. My gauges will just go out and dash lights. I will be doing 60 and the car will miss a little, but keep going. The gauges will jump back up and the car will do a systems check while I am doing 60. Today I started the car and no gauges and a service engine code for component slipping in transmission. Nothing is slipping, but that code is stored and keeps coming back. Today after I started and got no gauges, I shifted into gear and I got the gauges back and a service engine code(the slipping component again and I drove to work with no overdrive) Tried to have a new BCM installed that I bought online to no avail, but the car was nice and warm and dry. Drove home with the code gone, overdrive, and all my gauges. Happens most after a car wash when it goes down to zero degrees.

i have a 93 gmc jimmy 4x4 it will shift from 1st to 2nd no problem and it has reverse but when it goes to shift into 3rd it acts like it goes into neutral and lets the engine rev up is it time for a rebuild or is it something a little more simple like a solenoid or something

ok i have a 93 gmc jimmy with a 4.3 vortec 4x4 and when it snowed i pushed the button thats switches to 4x4 and it clicked and jerked felt like it was in 4x4 but when i took off my back tires were spinnig but my front tires werent it was bogging down in 4low but still front tires werent spinning any help would be great thanks

My Safari's AWD is not working, and everything is hooked up. It went out gradually. What happened?

my 98 jimmy transmission start acting up like starting off slow then power kicks in, races some time to change, RPM goes up and down when I am driving below 40 MPH, this just started just yesterday, I check the fluid level thats OK but the fluid color doesn't look so great.
Any advice?

I got a P1870 code on my 1996 GMC Jimmy and decided to fix it myself. I bought one of those repair kits and replaced parts of the control valve and put everything back together but now the shift linkage is off. I tried to adjust it according to my repair manual and all I can get the vehicle to shift into is P,R,N but no further. Before I take it to a shop (which you can probably tell I'd rather not do) what can I do to get the shifting back like it was? I feel like I'm missing something simple and I want to try everything before giving it to someone else.

Heard vacuum leak and then when slowing down loud noise from right front side. Put in 4Hi and noise went away. Unplugged elec connection at transfer case and noise never came back. Had vacuum leak fixed and plugged in on transfer case. Drove 3000 miles without problem. Then noise came back. Unplugged elec connector at transfer case and noise is gone. What is problem and how do I fix. Transfer case has a cable running to it from under the battery tray and the elec plug.

i have Bridgestone Dueler that came on the van but have worn out at 65k .was thinking of Toyo or Yokhama , they our better brands. does anybody use them on there van. it a 2003 Safari slt awd with 65k on the van. drives local miles and one road trip per year.

Again thanks for the reply. Almost finished I think. The front shaft spins but the front wheels are not engaged. Front wheels will not spin on grass but shaft turns. So you think the spinning front shaft would contribute to the vibration of the truck from 35 mph on up?

I replaced the fluid and filter in my friend’s 97 GMC Jimmy 4.3l v6 4x4, and now every gear drives the truck but not drive/overdrive. If the gas pedal is pushed till the tach hits 2000 rpms it will start to move slowly in drive. Fluid level is good please help with suggestions, this one has me puzzled. I have the battery cable off right now, gonna try that route now.

Brake pedal goes soft on my GMC Jimmy after hitting hard bumps or pot holes in the road. Any ideas?

I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy. I hit a hard bump on the interstate and my break pedal went soft and hardly had any brakes. Brake pads were replaced and all was good for 4 days until I went down a side street under construction and hit more pot holes and rough patches in the road. Once again, soft break pedal with hardly any brakes. "Reputable" dealer said, and I quote, "Left Brake hose was twisted/kinked from previous brake job. Removed calliper and untwisted hose and also noticed brake fluid with excessive carbon buildup due to possible master cylinder internal seal wear. Recommend brake flush and master cylinder due by mileage." The funny thing is that the problem started before the previous brake job. I think I was the one that was hosed. Any ideas as to why the brake pedal may have gone soft after hitting rough patches in the road?

Re: Amerilite 21MB towed with GMC Sonoma. Would tow 50 miles on flat country road & back 12 times per summer?

Sonoma 2001 has GU6 3.42 axle and 29,000 miles on it.
Gulf Stream Amerilite 21MB camper weighs 3,300 pounds and we would put no more than 300 pounds in it, likely less. We buy groceries when we get there and do not haul water. We camp at the same place all the time, one hour from home, 50 miles one way, and get there on 2 lane country roads with light traffic. Would it be crazy to buy this camper and think we could pull it with our Sonoma? Booklet says it can pull 6,000 pounds... but I just don't know; this is a small truck. We have no hitch now and would have to have one mounted to the truck. Dealer said we would not need a transmission cooler; is that true? All info, opinions and experiences appreciated. Thanks for any help.

I had my breaks done at a well known place. After they finished the break job the breaks were very lose. They told me that it was something more than just that. I can't rememeber the exact name the mechanic use but it was near the place where the break fluid goes. This thing sits right behind the break fluid it is also round. The mechanic said that I have air in the line but that was not the case. A simple break job and now I am facing another 6 hours in this shop so they can figure out what they did wrong.Perhaps someone else is having the same problem with there 2004 GMC Envoy after they had the breaks replaced.

I need to lower the front end on my 2006 GMC Yukon by 1 inch. Whats the best/easiest way?

'94 GMC Jimmy - brakes would screech when coming to a stop; daughter's vehicle; drove it myself and was appalled at how bad the brakes were. Just finished changing pads and shoes, and had rotors/drums turned (no more screeching). But what has me really concerned is that you have to press VERY hard to actuate the brakes (as if the power assist is not working at all), and at 1st it feels really mushy but then the power assist seems to kick in partially, but after short order that diminishes. I'm thinking there's air in the line, but even that doesn't explain the difficulty in pressing down on the brake peddle. Chk'd the vacuum going to the power assist unit - and a vacuum is definitely present. Power Assist unit gone south, maybe?

What could the problem be? GMC Jimmy clunking noise.

We had the rear brakes replaced, also the rotors and wheel cylinders. Since then, when the vehicle is off, the brake pedal goes to the floor. It did not do that before. We keep being told that it is ok as they are power assisted and if the power is off, there is no brake.

My 1996 GMC Yukon stock radio plays for about 3 seconds when it is first turned on and then fades and will not play.

The free play seemed to happen rather suddenly. Gripping the steering wheel shaft with slip joint pliers on the rubber sleeve seems to stop the play. Gripping the shaft above or below the rubber sleeve does not stop the play. There is movement in the shaft when pushed and pulled side to side but I can't tell if the loosness is just above the power steering box or where the shaft comes through the firewall. Where are the steering wheel shaft universal joints? Is there a common area where these wear out? Is there any chance this is not in the shaft but can be eliminated by adjusting the screw on the power steering box, if one exists?

We have checked the vacuum hoses and changed the oxygen sensor. As soon as you start the engine, it idles extremely high and stays there even after engine has reached operating temperature.

Where can I get a vacuum diagram for a 91 GMC Sonoma with the 4.3 ?
