02 Altima 2.5S with possible leak should I take it to the dealership?

I purchased an 02 Altima 2.5S with only 21,000 miles on it in July 07. It now has roughly 31,000 miles on it. I noticed the car was taking longer to shift and then when it did shift a slight jerk. I checked the transmission fluid and it was almost empty. This was on 2/2/08. I added the fluid and it ran perfect again. Now it feels like it is starting to do it again. Is this normal should I ever have to refill the transmission fluid? I don't ever recall having to do this in any other car. Do I need to take it to the dealership? I have a warranty but I have to pay $50 for each item that needs repair. Would I be better off to find a repair shop or just take in to the dealership?

Is there any way I can tell if my cooper lifeliner touring sle tires are all season tires ??? I don't see any markings on tires saying all season. I have a 2002 nissan altima v6 w/17" tires. The car is acting very bad in snow conditions. I have had other front wheel drive cars and never had such a bad car in snow. I was carrying 35# pressure in tires but recently took pressure down to 33# which seem to help but car still seems to have trouble in snow. Any ideas on what problem could be or is car just not that great in snow???

Thanks

Paint care - New car - Nissan Altima - need REAL advice.

I picked up a 06 Frontier and attempted to keep it as nice as possible and failed.

Now we have a new 08 Altima. BLACK. It already has some minor swirls etc from poor car washing prior to selling it.

I want to use the BEST quality items for taking care of this vehicle and my frontier. Please help.

I started using Microfiber towels, washed after every use. I use one for the top half of the car, and another for the bottom half. I do NOT use the same soap and bucket for the bottom half of the car. I then do the wheels last. I still have plenty of marks on the car.

I was interested in doing some serious spring cleaning on this truck. I noticed the mothers 3 step process. Is this worth it?
Btw - I use pure carnuba and a polish pad to apply, microfiber to remove wax. I only waxed about 3 times a year.

So what can I do to bring my trucks finish back to the best quality I can. I'll buy whatever I need to...I need new tools/toys. :) If I need a buffer so be it.

And how should I start with this new Altima? Is there anything I can do NOW before I get tree sap, bug goo etc before it's too late? How about from now on?

Thanks!

S

Inconsistent worn brake pad on my Nissan Altima.

I rotated tires of my 03 Altima last weekend, and I checked the brake pads. I noticed that the inner pad of the driver side rear brake was worn more than even the front pads. The outer pad was OK. I also noticed that the outer surface of the disc was rusted instead of smooth. I would assume that the surface would be smooth from friction with the pad. What caused this? Is this serious? Thanks.

Hello...I leased a 2007 Nissan Altima which was just recently deemed a total loss vehicle by my insurance company due to an accident. I used a my previous car as a trade which came to $6700 which I used toward the lease of the Altima. Do I receive any credit or money from my trade-in that I used for my car that was just totaled toward a new vehicle? Thank you!

I have a 97 Altima. When I turn curves on a highway, (my speed is usually between 65mph-75mph as I accelerate as I pull out of the curve) I noticed that my steering wheel corrects itself in opposite direction, almost like I would lose control of the car, except I catch it because I have 2 hands on the wheel. It's kind of scary, especially since I am going at such a speed. What would cause this? And what would be an estimate to fix it? I just wonder, because if it is too much, maybe it's worth it just to buy a new car?

I recently leased a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe. I was told GAP coverage was included with my lease. However, when I took a closer look at the paperwork, I didn't see anything specifically indicating GAP coverage. I called the dealership and the salesman is having me return to review it. But should I be concerned? Could it just be that they don't put it in their contract because it's included with the lease or am I missing something?

Can we walk away from this deal on a Nissan Altima lease?

My husband leased an 08 Altima a little over a week ago. We currently have another vehicle financed through NMAC in my husband's name and so when the finance manager mentioned to us that he wanted to set everything up in my husbands' name, I asked for it to be changed. He pressured us into keeping things just in my husbands' name (because that is the way he set up the deal) and now a week or so later he wants us to come back in and sign the papers in both of our names. Can we turn in the car and walk away?

Here are the details:

Immediately after signing the deal, the salesperson was going over the new car checklist and revealed a scratch (to the metal) and dent the size of a quarter on the hood of the car. The salesperson "Nathan" went inside and retrieved the sales manager "Kerry" who told us that they would do "whatever" we wanted done on the car to fix it properly. (At that point, neither of us wanted the car anymore, because we knew it would be a hassle to make arrangements to have it fixed plus, if the repair work is not done right, then ultimately, we pay the price, right?) After several phone calls last week to and from the dealership to get the dent/scratch fixed, the dealership tried to back out of fixing the dent properly.

"Nathan" called us this past Friday and said that the sales manager "Kerry" wanted to see if he could get someone to pop the dent out instead of us sending it to a body shop. The dent is scratched to the metal!...and he looked at it and said that it was definitely scratched.

Yesterday, we recieve a phone call from the finance manager "SATAN" requesting that we come in and resign the deal with guess what "both of our names", like we wanted to do in the first place. During the conversation on the phone with the finance manager regarding the resigning I told him that if they could not fix the car the way that it needed to be fixed, I told him that I would not be signing any papers. "SATAN" told me that the "Kerry" "no longer works for our organization" and I really shouldn't be holding "THEIR" car for ransom to get the work done that we were requesting to be done. Approximately 5 minutes later, "Kerry", the person who "no longer works for the organization", calls to speak to my husband about getting the dent and scratch fixed. After pulling some teeth, my husband "Kerry" to agree to pay for the car to be fixed the way that it should be fixed by a body shop that my husband trusts.

But.....at this point, they have lied to us at least 3x during the course of this car purchase and we would really like to drive the car up, hand them the keys and walk out and give our business to someone else. At this point are the papers that we signed that cannot be used to finance the car, null and void? Is there any reason we cannot go in and drop the keys on a desk and leave? Help!!!! (By the way, just in case you need to know...we live in Louisiana.)

My son recently drove his Altima while the car was running hot. Needlessly to say he blew the head gasket and it was not covered under warranty. I need to know how to take off the covers for the timing chains so that i can set the timing.

My Nissan Altima AC blows hot air for the first minute before turning cool and doesn't get cold until 3 minutes. Is this a problem?

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima. It takes about 1 minute before the ac blows cool air and about 3 minutes before the air is cold. We also have a 2005 toyota camry that when started the ac blows cold air within seconds. So it seems like there may be a problem with the ac in my Maxima. I just bought the maxima from car max, they checked it out and found a leak in the ac hose. They replaced the hose and recharged the ac but it still takes the same amount of time to cool. Is this a problem or is this normal for maxima ac?

Negotiating on 2002 Nissan Altima with high mileage...Help?

Hi, I may purchase an '02 Altima, but want to make sure I get a good deal. The car is in great condition, but it has 153,000 miles on it. The dealer is asking for 7,000 but says it's negotiable. Are Altimas dependable after going over 200k miles? I'd like to keep the car for ~ 4 years, if possible.

Thanks for any help.

How do I change the valve cover gasket on a 96 Nissan Altima?

I was actually trying to replace the spark plugs on this car. However, I realized that I didnt have the proper extension tool to reach the plugs. So I tried reaching the same by opening the valve cover and then reaching the plugs. There was oil seepage around the valve cover. after opening the cover, I was able to reach and unscrew the plug, but was still unable to get it out. So the second part of my question is whether I need any special tool to get the spark plug out? I tried replacing the cover and somehow managed to get it on, but there is a gap left and after I returned from work yesterday and parked my car, I noticed some smell and smoke coming from under the hood. I am thinking that the smoking might be because the oil would probably be leaking from the valve cover since I did not do a good job fixing it back on. Since the area around the valve cover was already covered with oil from before, I can't tell for sure. So would like to know the procedure to replace the valve gasket. Should I do it myself or get a professional to do it. What would be the auto shops charge for this service (approx.)?

Thanks,
