I have a 1992 Isuzu Trooper 3.2L. Does anyone know what the compression psi is supposed to be?

I changed the plugs and wires. When I pulled two of the plugs, they had oil on them. I changed them anyway and it's still running bad. So I thought I would do a compression test, but I don't know what the psi is supposed to be.

It's not so much the "magic number" as the relationship of pressures among the cylinders. In other words, you don't want the following:

1. More than 15%-20% variation among cylinders. The engine will run but something's up in there.

2. Any reading below 85 psi. That's really low, but below that the cylinder just won't fire.

But for the record, your compression on that engine should be 12.5kg/cm2 or about 178 psi

KEEP IN MIND-- you can have good upper compression rings and still have worn oil rings....so you can have an engine with good compression that still burns oil.

To be really sure you need to do a Cylinder Leakdown Test.
