    This has nothing to do with the remote starter. The ground wires for the rear light assemblies are probably disconnected or have corroded connections. If your taillight assemblies ground through the mounting bolts; there may be paint on the body panel which interferes with the electrical contact between the light assemblies and the body. A bad contact in the ground side will cause the lights to shut down if more current was drawn through them than the bad connection will conduct. The third brake light probably has a separate ground wire from the regular taillight assemblies. If this vehicle has a lot of body rust, or if the rear hatch has been repaired or replaced; the ground wire might have been removed and then never put back.
