'03 GMC Yukon with 84,000 miles. Service 4WD light comes on with red light on the switch. What's wrong?

The Service 4WD light came on during afternoon commute. The next morning no light. Then the service light came on again during the afternoon commute along with a red indicator light on the 4WD switch. If switched in and out of Auto 4WD the light changed back to yellow.

In Maintenance & Repair > Scheduled Maintenance
In Makes & Models > GMC > Yukon
In Maintenance & Repair > Engine > Indicator Lights
