The fuel pump cannot keep the vehicle from cranking, but can make it crank and not start. If you hear the starter cranking with no start, have the fuel pressure tested. If there is no crank (no sound when the key is turned) have someone test for voltage at the starter. If there is power and command at the starter and no crank, replace the starter.
