1995 Nissan Pathfinder SE. Does it have integrated starter security, using the automatic shifter?

I bought this used vehicle in July and only drive it occasionally. When I bought it, someone from the car lot informed me that the reason it would not start, with turning the key resulting only in a clicking sound was because I had to move the shifter to some mysterious correct position and that this is a security measure provided by Nissan. Is this true? If it is please let me know the correct way to position the shifter to start the vehicle, as I was stuck at a busy gas station for about 15 min. trying to start the Pathfinder yesterday (9-15-08). In the center consol between the seats, there is a button that says security alarm from the factory. How does this work, if it is still functioning? There was no owner's manual included with the Pathfinder, but maybe I should start looking for one.
Thanks, Lizbeth

No, thats not true. Your problem is that the shift position sensor which prevents you from starting the car in gear and having an accident is malfunctioning. You can try putting the car in neutral to start in when it malfunctions, but you need to have it fixed to avoid being stranded. You should buy an owner's manual sothat you can look up how the security system works and for all other functions. Check ebay for used or new ones for sale.

Just check and clean the battery terminal, maybe loose. 99% you're problem is battery only base on what you said. I hope it helps. Don't hesitate to ask. You can reach me also at my email evinfolks@yahoo.ca.
