1996 Ford Ranger power point outlet is always on.

is the power point outlet or cigar lighter controller by the ignition switch?

I want to connect a xm radio to the power point outlet in the cab, but the outlet never shuts off.

In Maintenance & Repair > Electrical
In Makes & Models > Ford > Ranger
In Car Accessories > Audio > iPod MP3 Integration

Many cars and trucks have a cigarette lighter outlet that is always on. It is not controlled by the ignition. Why not connect the radio to the radio circuit?

The power outlet on Fords is not switched from the ignition. It is always on.

I would tap into a switched circuit if it was me.
