Have you checked the flasher? Usually located under the dash near the fuses - a cylinder about an inch long and inch in diameter that plugs in. I don't know of any indication that it has failed on the unit. The part should be less than $10.

If both the turn signals and hazard lights don't work then it is the flasher. The flasher on the Mark 8 is located behind the glove box. If you open the glove box and push the 2 tabs on the side it will swing all the way out of the dash and you will see the flasher on the left just inside the space. It looks like a little black relay that is screwed with a metal bracket to the frame of the dash.

Thanks for your answers. Problem has been corrected-- the problem was the turn signal switch located inside the stearing column.

On the 1996 Lincoln Mark 8 the flasher is located under the left hand corner of the dash, you just about have to stand on your head to locate it. Removal of the panel under the steering wheel will help locate the flasher. The flasher is screwed to the dash frame and difficult to get to. But if the turn signals don't work and the safety flashers don't work, the problem is the turn signal assembly on the steering column. I just went through the whole process and have a spare flasher now. An aftermarket turn signal assembly can be bought on line for about $55.00 (list price for a OEM assembly about $150.00) . Do not remove the glove box on the 1996 Mark 8 you will not find the flasher there (personal experience).
