Black smoke indicates excess fuel which is almost always associated with complaints of poor fuel mileage. Common causes are faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor. Check the oil to be sure the oil has not been contaminated by the excess fuel.
