    The most common reasons for the problem you describe on Jettas is either the fusible link in the fuse box has blown or the alarm switch for the hood latch is malfunctioning. Check the fusible link first as it is easy to check. While in the fuse box also check the regular fuses and relays for the anti theft system. The hood latch alarm switch should be very near the hood latch in the front of the car. Check the wiring to see if it has gotten stripped or frayed. Many times it is just that the switch has moved slightly and is not being shut off when you close the hood. Good luck and let me know if you have any follow up questions.
