    The computer has detected a problem with the transmission and put it in "Limp Mode". If you hook up a code reader it may have a stored code. Many auto parts stores such as Autozone will read the codes at no charge. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the computer but if there is a problem it will go back into limp mode.
