Edmunds Visitor	1999 Jeep GC Catalytic converter I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited, 4.7. And my husband wanted to know if he can remove the catalytic converter? Greatly appreciate if I can get an answer.

Most States now have mandatory emissions testing, at least on 1996 and newer vehicles. Removing the converter will offer no advantage and may violate local emissions laws.

No your husband can't remove the catalytic converter and it may effect performance since an O2 sensor is connected to the catalytic converter, as was previously stated state emission inspections do require it to be working.
