2000 Toyota Avalon XLS. Why does the unlock portion suddenly not work on either the driver or passenger doors?

Suddenly the unlock portion of the power door lock switch on both the driver's and passenger's door stopped working. The remote works for both lock and unlock and both switches will lock the doors, but neither switch will unlock the doors.
