2001 Buick Park Avenue fuel gauge wackiness.

i read here that the fuel gauge could be "reset"with the magnet but i tried and it kinda goes wacky and then it pegs on full
i see it goes from empty ( ig off) to full then it bounces to 1/2 ( the correct amount of fuel i have) then pegs itself to full again
so i tried to take the magnet and move it ( key on) but i could not
any ideas? help

That could be a couple of things and I don't think resetting it is gonna help.

You have a bad fuel sending unit. This is located inside the tank and when it goes bad causes the fuel gauge to fluctuate wildly. The only cure is to replace it.
