    Well, the first step is to check the fluid level and color. Make sure the fluid is at the correct level with the engine running hot and the truck in "park" position. If the fluid is at the right level, bright red and does not smell burnt. The next step is to change the filter. Many of the problems you note come from low fluid pressure from a clogged filter. The 4R44E automatic transmission is known for this. You MUST change the fliter every 2-3 years. If all this fails, then you want to get the specific tranny codes from a reader that specifically hasFord capability. Many large transmission shops like AAMCO will do a free reading of the codes for you.
