2001 Kia Sephia automatic. I had a small accident. After I parked my car I could not put it in gear unless screwdriver was used.

I had a minor front end accident with my 2001 Kia Sephia. I parked the car to assess the damage and repair my headlight. Afterward I could not put my automatic car into gear without using a screwdriver to bypass it. How can I fix this and get my car to run in drive and not only in second? Please help me.

First thing to check is your brake light switch. If you don't have brake lights, then your brake light switch is probably not sending a release signal to your transmission lock-out solenoid.

If it's not that, they either the wiring or the solenoid at the gearshift lever has to be changed.

Maybe just a connector has been jarred loose.
