2001 Olds Alero with 124,000 miles dies when driving. Fast or slow, quiet streets or busy highways. Scary! Help!

Recently had a major tune-up and was told car would drive another 100,000 miles. Now, Alero keeps dying when I'm driving. Usually occurs when driving in town, but has also happened when driving on major highway and had car set on cruse control. Simply shut down, so I had to quickly put on my hazards and coast to the side of the road. Mechanics say they cannot find the problem.
