Have the transmission control module tested. The TCM controls all shift points in concert with the powertrain control module. To find out the nature of the problem, you'll need to read the transmission diagnostic trouble codes. AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll read trouble codes for free. In many cases, the problem is nothing more than a faulty input or output speed sensor. The input speed sensor is the most likely culprit and is pretty easy to replace. Good luck!
