    that's interesting that some shops gave you a "yes" answer when your engine doesn't even HAVE a timing belt. That's one shop I wouldn't go back to.

    Your engine has a chain. No worries.

    Ken,,you need to know that there is a serpentine belt on your highlanders engine.

    Some people call the serpentine belt, the accessory belt.

    This belt is used to operate the power steering pump, a/c compressor, water pump and alternator.

    The serpentine belt should be inspected every 30,000 miles and replaced if there is damage to the belt.

    Damage would consist of cracking,, splitting,,fraying,,glazing,,oil contamination.
