2005 Jeep Liberty diesel. Low beam head lights do not work; high beam and fogs do work. No voltage at fuse box.

Low beams did not work in Atlanta; trip home started working so I did not "fix it". Back to Atlanta no low beams; no voltage at light bulb; no voltage at fuse box (either leg); same technique showed 12 V on one leg of high beam fuse circuit. High beams & fog lamps work. See some blogs mention the Body control module as a source of problem ~ $600-800 (for a simple circuit issue) Is there a scanner I can purchase to read through the PCI data bus network? Where do you find the error codes?

This is a pretty complicated affair to diagnose and even if you figured out that the BCM was bad, it would have to be re-programmed by the dealer and a special scan tool.

It's possible you could replace the low beam headlight relay with a known good one and see if that works.

What you need is a DRBIII scanner , which is very expensive but does a lot of things. I'm not sure anyone could confidently say that a less expensive store-bought handheld scanner is going to work on your Chrysler product. It might show a few things.

In any event, even if you got a cheaper scan tool to read some DRB III codes, it won't read all of them and it won't be able to interface/activate various components you'll need for testing.

I think you're pretty much stuck to either taking a guess on the headlight relay, or going to the dealer and biting the bullet.
