2008 Mazda CX 9. Is there a way to bypass the safety feature on the Nav unit?

The options grey out once moving on the Nav unit in our Mazda CX 9. Isn't there a way to bypass the safety feature so the passenger (wife) can program while driving down the road? We we just coming back from Canada and wanted a coffee so she went to enter Starbucks and the option was greyed out? We had to pull over on the freeway in order to program the unit? From what I'm seeing so far the dealer installed unit isn't worth the money? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Yes, but it involves DIY.
(1) open up the center console to access behind the NAVI screen
(2) find the speed sensor input wire to the NAVI display
(3) install a mechanical switch in the middle
(4) locate the switch where you can access it while driving (or the passenger)
(5) reverse step (1)

The idea is to install a switch that disconnects the speed sensor input to "fool" the NAVI system that the speed of vehicle is 0. That defeats the grey-out of NAVI. The same concept has been applied to many NAVI systems with grey-out design.
See www.coastaletech.com
No pre-made kit is available on the market. You just need to DIY.
Step (2) requires "Wiring Manual" from Mazda.

Unbenknownst to most owners you CAN navigate to one of the built-in POIs while moving.

First tell the car what type of POI's you want to see (via voice commands) and maybe via the menu. Just zoom out to find the POI on your nav screen (restaurant etc).

Then touch the POI Icon you want to go to and touch SET AS....at the bottom of the screen. You'll now be able to touch DESTINATION and the normal 3 options for routing will appear.

This all works while the car is moving over 5MPH.

Impossible. The only options are to select a PRESET DESTINATION or to navigate to a POI that you can find on the MAP......Zoom out until you can see the POI you want, then click on it, then set as DESTINATION.

No way to enter an address from scratch above 5 MPH.
