2010 Honda Accord Coupe vs 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe

Hi. I am currently in this dilemma b/t the 2010 Accord coupe LX-S 4 cyl and the 2010 Altima Coupe 2.5 S CVT 4 cyl.
I think both of these two vehicles cost approximately 22k - 23k out the door (of course not now, probably late Nov or Dec). I first leaned more to Accord since everyone has been talking about Honda's reliability and resale value, also Accord is well-known for delivering a comfortable, smooth ride. However, after I have done my lots of research, it appears to be true that the 08, 09 and even 10 Accord models have severe premature brake squeaking issue. Honda Cooperate knows about the problem, but they claim that there is no fix and customers are responsible for paying for the repair, meaning that we have to pay about $300 every 10k miles (based on carcomplaints.com) to change the brake. After I found out this, I started leaning more to Altima. I have looked through a lot of reviews, and it seems like the cons of Altima is that it is not as comfortable as Accord, low resale value, kid-size back seat and extremely sensitive brake.
I checked the true cost to own estimation on both cars on edmunds.com, the cost is pretty much the same. Here's the link to the Altima and Accord, respectively »www.edmunds.com/new/2009/nissan/·&#...

So please give me some suggestion on this dilemma. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

I definetly think the Altima has plenty of room and is a reliable performer. I like it better than the Honda principally because it is a better handling car. Much sportier than the soft sprung Accord. I believe consumer reports actually rates it better than the Accord. Like I said, the problem is resale value, but if you intend to keep the car for more than 3 years, that difference goes down every year past that.

I like the Altima better than the Accord, but as you say it simply does not hold its resale value like the Accord does. I'd drive both and see which one you prefer. I doubt you'll have to replace the brakes every 10K miles on the Accord. I have heard of premature wear on the rear brake pads at around 25K miles. The solution is to have an independent mechanic put new pads in for less than $100. I also suspect if you use a better brand of pads they will last a lot longer.

I saw one of the reviews of 2010 Accord on Edmunds.com, saying that the brake is already making noise when its only 3-digit miles. Also on Carcomplaints.com, it indicates that the average miles required to replace brake is 10k.
So you think Altima is pretty comfortable as well? You just brought up a good point though. If the Accord does have the issue, I could take it to some mechanic and replace the brake with a cheap one that costs around $100. But if so, it's still a pain.

At the end of the day it's just a car.

All cars have problems and all cars are pretty good these days.

Of the two, I'd probably go with the Altima, but I've never had a Honda and have had great luck with my one Nissan.

Go with your gut. Maybe call the service departments of both and tell them you have an '04 model and find out how much a brake job costs. But yeah, an independent mechanic for either one should be cheaper than the dealer.

You can't really go very wrong with either.

And please don't ask the same question over and over again. Once should suffice and you can then post follow-ups with the Answer this Question button. Thanks.

I have had two different Altimas-a 1999 and a 2003 and have not had any serious problems wiht either one of them. The 2003, which has 53K on it had only one out of the norm problem-the radiator cracked where the metal body meets the plastic top tank and since I didint have an extended service contract, which i never buy, I footed the bill but I still came out ahead instead of buying the extended warranty. My daughter and son in law both have Hondas and swear buy them so persoanlly I prefer the styling ont he Altima mucho better.

Is it comfortable though? I read many reviews that complained about the road noise, suspension, brake system and visiblity.

I would not recomend the Honda. I have an 08 Accord and have had several issue's. The last being my rear brakes only lasted 23,000 miles. I would go for the Nissan because Honda is building junk and will not back it unless they get a class action against them. Kind of reminds me of the big 3 in the 80s

Really? That really sucks. Actually, I just test drove the Altima today, both the Coupe and the Sedan. Coupe looks a lot better than the Sedan, yet Sedan is much more comfortable than the Coupe. Anyways, I found the Coupe pretty comfortable though. So I think I might go for the ALtima Coupe, although I will test drive one more time. By the way, the rear window is indeed pretty small.
