4 cylinder 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle recommendations?

My girlfriend is looking for a 4cyl, 4wheel drive or all wheel drive Forester type vehicle. In essence, she wants something that won't take up too much gas yet provide traction since she is moving to Minnesota and is not accustomed to winter driving. Please recommend vehicles of this type that I can help her research (i.e. Jeep liberty, Forester, etc.) Thanks for your help ya'll!

No matter what kind of vehicle she chooses, it must have snow tires for traction and especially for braking. Many folks get a second set of wheels and tires for winter use. Subaru's, some smaller Toyota SUV models, and the Ford Taurus AWD are some vehicles to consider. In winter driving MPG plummets, so don't be too alarmed when it happens.
