    I don't know how you cleared the code; it is not supposed to be cleared while the engine is running. The way to clear OBD1 codes is to shut the engine off, and then disconnect the battery for 60 seconds or more. When you reconnect the battery, the code will be cleared. After you clear codes; the car will need to be driven for a few miles, under the full range of normal speeds and loads (including a short run in passing gear) for the computer to re-learn the way the engine runs. It is normal for it to run badly until it re-learns its settings.

    The battery should NEVER be disconnected while the engine is running. Doing so, even for a few seconds, can destroy the alternator diodes.
