This is the most common problem with the Jeep AX5 manual transmission.. You put it in 5th and nothing happens. It acts as if it is in neutral. This is because the c-clip holding the gear on its shaft snaps and the gear slides back, thus it is unable to engage. If this is your case, you need a new c-clip installed. Unfortunately, this is internal to the tranny and requires it to be opened up. You do not have to remove the transmission from the jeep, just remove the back side of the transmission case.
