I recommend you don't do it, for two reasons: The cost far exceeds any benefit (which has been shown to be small in third party tests of these conversions), and the conversions put your high-tech hybrid at risk (you'll lose the factory warranty). A better bet is to get all the benefits your hybrid offers, then trade in for a factory plug-in when it appears.

Good points texases. Or what I would do is do a conversion after the warranty expires, so that there wouldn't be any warranty to void. These are not simple carburated machines that anyone can work on. There's a ton of technology packed into them. The last thing you need is to have warranty issues because you performed modifications that were nto supported by the factory.

Or buy a used hybrid like an original Honda Insight or first generation Pruis that's out of warranty and do the conversion on them.

If you must have recomendations on a company, I don't know any off the top of my head that I would recommend. Plug in hybrid conversions are fairly new mods that started popping up only a few short years ago so anyone out there doing them is still basically experimenting and using your vehicle as a guinea pig for it.

Thanks to both of you for thoughtful and informed responses. I guess I'll wait till there's a plug-in from the factory. I think some will be coming out this year.
