Bad bulbs or something else ?

my turn signals work every so often they flash a few times then stops flashing in either direction any suggestions in where to start looking?

It isn't bad bulbs. If a bulb goes out, it's permanent. Two other possibilities exist: The flasher relay or the turn signal switch itself.

Test the flasher relay by turning on the 4-way emergency flashers. If they work properly every time, the relay is good and the turn signal switch in the column is bad. If the 4-ways behave strangely, the flasher relay is bad and the turn signal switch is probably OK.

The flasher relay location varies by vehicle, but it is usually under the dash. Turn the 4-ways or turn signals on (when they're working) and follow the sound of the blinker to find the relay.
